| I'm just wondering why there are so many photographers from Iceland? and it seems to me that people from Iceland are really goood photographers...Just wondering that's all |

| They put strange things in the water up there. And if you were born in iceland you get automatic blue ribbons when you enter challenges on DPC. Its a courtesy cause they're on a cold island. |

There's not much else to do there, really. They are a nation of photographers. It's either that or drink. Some of them do both :-) It's definitely NOT the water, unless you include "firewater" in that category.

I think it's because I live there.
No I don't know. Maybe it's the weather or the sunshine. Maybe the Icelandic photographers have the "ribbon magnet". I think I wouldn't had as many ribbon as I do if I were from USA. |

It's because Icelanders have a sense of relaxed urgency. You would too if you lived on an island nation formed by an actively volcanic mid oceanic ridge that could be naturally obliterated at any moment.

I think it's because we are Vikings, when a storm hits USA you run for shelter, we put on a jacket, when a tornado hits the USA you evacuate and everything gets destoyed, when we get the same wind speed we go clean up the yard so the BBQ won't fall over...etc. etc...
and because of that we stay outside taking pictures when it's the last thing you would think about.... and therefore the ribbons.....
or it's the water..... who knows :)

Here is my belief. paparazzi they are everywhere. until they yank off the wrong celeberty such as Sean Penn or Tommy Cruise once they pull the chain of the wrong guy they end up waking up in Iceland with absolutely no memory of the past job other than the skill of taking photos that is.

Paparazzi that yank off Tom Cruise don't go to Iceland, they just vanish.

My former boss was a Weapons Officer/Photographer on a P2V in the 60's he was deployed to Iceland 4 times. He was always p.o.'d about it. Not because he didn't love the place, but they always deployed them on what he called Combat Ready. So he couldn't pack any of his personal camera gear and they wouldn't let him take any of the GI stuff off the plane.
He said I got to see alot of the world, but only got to take photos of crappy commie subs.

We do not get tornados in Iceland, so we do not know how Icelanders behave in that kind of weather. People that are clearly out of their minds might consider going out when a tornado is nearby, others stay somewhere safe, like indoors :)
I would love for the Icelandic photographers on dpc to go out in wet cloudy windy weather and submit shots.
There are a lot, and I mean a lot of fabulous photographers from Iceland on DPC, but their pictures seldom depict the weather Iceland is also known for, rain, fog, sleet and lots of wind.
I have tried searching for ribbons that have been given for Icelandic rain shots, I need to search again. :)
Good shots can of course be taken in all kinds of weather, but it's not easy.
Go Iceland Go !!!

| Fact: One fine spring morning, while on a lonely six-month photography excursion on the then-uncharted territory that we now know as iceland, Ansel Adams, David Muench, Margaret Burke-White, Gary Karpluggin, and Henri Cartier Bresson eloped and started a family. The descendents currently populate the country of Iceland. |

Nah, doesn´t have anything to do with light/magic hours etc, Icelanders living anywhere are great photographers ;) I live in the Middle East! LOL Still got a ribbon. It´s genetic or more likely paying attention and the will to learn.

Well said, and I'll have you know that this woman is not the bragging type. She does excellent work with the minimum of equipment.
