Hello - Gosh you are all amazing photographers. I love taking photos and am upgrading to a "real" digital camera this fall/winter. I am looking for suggestions and pros and cons. At the moment I am leaning toward a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. From what I have read it is quite user friendly for someone like me and still has a lot of great features. I don't want to go overboard with all the acessories that go along with it.

What camera would you recommend and why
What are the basic starter accessories you would recommend.

I know you all talk about much more advanced things here but I sure would appreciate the recommendation.

Get a rebel to start off...you're on the right track.

Rebels are great cameras for the price and I've heard great things about them, but go to a camera store and try it out first hand in a store to see how it feels. Some people say they like the feel of a Nikon better, it's all in what you like but you can't go wrong with either. I don't know what your budget is or what you like to shoot, so I won't get into lenses.

Starter accessories: First get a large memory card, 1GB or more. They are relatively cheap nowadays. Lexar, Sandisk, and Transcend are good brands. Second thing would be a camera bag. Amazon has a decent Canon backpack for $37. Next I would get a tripod. Doesn't have to be super fancy, but spend a little more on a good sturdy one, preferably with a quick release plate. With the tripod, you could get a remote for the XT, wired or wireless and they are only about $20.

That should start you off ok (for now), and maybe some lens cloth or a Lenspen. Amazon also has dvd training guides for the Rebel XT which might help you get to know your camera faster.

Good luck and let us know what you get.
