Okay, in teh bokeh challenge my wonderful ribbon-worthy entry, a truly magnificient piece of art, worthy of hanging in the National Gallery (of any country but Iceland) does not have a score of 7.5+ like it deserves.

This confounds me - 6 of the 7 comments are extremely positive - they exceed even my hyperbole! The other one is somewhat neutral i think (english must not be their first language, or perhaps the comment is intentionally ambiguous.)

Anyway, I have no comments that would explain the actual score I see on my screen- so what are you afraid of, you low-voting, blind to art and lacking letters on your keyboard lurkers?

C'mon, tell me why it's not a 7!
Since nobody out there seems to be able to explain why they think this great creation of mine is not getting the score it rightly deserves, I assume you are all either chicken-sh!t or just don't know what you're doing when it comes to evaluating images and voting.

Seriously, if it's not a 10, or even a 5.2 - tell me Why you think it is mediocre. If you don;t know - then just give it an 8 and move on.

Thank you.

I think you got to wait until after the challenge and then we can find out which one is your picture - right now we don't want to know :)

Anyway, there's an awful lot of hyperbole going around, I never put much faith in hyperbole.

Tell everyone how you really feel!

Suggested comments, feel free to cut and paste:

"Looks like your eyes were closed as well as your mind"

"What were you thinking? You need a brain alignment as i think you're veering too far (left, right...)"

"Too blue" ( or green, yellow)

"I hate flowers. I hate pictures of flowers. I hate your picture of a flower"

"I'm burnded out and every image looks like crap to me at this point"

With 430 entries voters are jaded.

I voted on every shot. If you haven't received a comment from me, PM after the challenge and I'll give you a critique.

Don't blame me, I've been too busy cutting up in the forums to vote. I'd go trolling, but I'm feeling too lazy to poop on 400+ photos.

On a recent previous challenge I had scored a 5.8xx. The average score from commentors was 7+. Many times my GREAT comments translate into low mediocore scores.

Chris,

Let it go bro.. YOU like the shot and so do a handful of others. You've achieved your goal, you got a great shot that's appealing to others. Who cares if the "majority" doesn't like it. As long as you are happy and growing (no flower pun intended) as a photographer then you've hit the mark.

I was pretty bent out of shape yesterday to about falling scores, but ya just have to say "eh, I tried!" and move on. I've gotten 16 comments so far and I appreciate every one, well maybe not one of them, but still at least people are commenting.

I'd be more than happy to comment on your shot as well after the challenge is over if I don't make it to it during voting.

Laters,
Nald

Commented. I doubt I'll make it through 20% so my vote probably won't count.

Think you might want to find that thread about DPC vs. Reality....
Here it is :)

Bokeh seems a little soft.

Subject doesn't have the WOW factor.

Love those.

How about:

"Are you sure you took the cap off?"

"What could you have possibly been thinking when you shot this."

"Were you drunk?"

"WTF?"

"Is this upside down?"

Nice thread to let off sssssteam in...

You could re-shoot this with -
a) some sort of bokeh in the background
b) some sort of subject in the foreground
c) some sort of relevance in the connection between a) and b) (then it would be really good)
d) without adding anything like Magnificent Solitude as a title, because it either says all that as a picture or it doesn't, and if it doesn't then the title will make things worse.
It's a lot to ask, but without some of the above this is a nice picture that doesn't stand out from four hundred others.

Here is a quarter, please call your mother and tell her you will never be a photographer.

Wow, what a shot!! Tell me, was the camera all the way up your butt.

Please return your camera to the manufacturer it is clearly flawed.

Did you mean to shoot this?

Did you enter the right photo?

Danger Will Robinson, Danger!

------okay I'll stop now--------

"Image is to dark: try exposing it"

"Or Dof Is to shallow"

It happened to me too. I thought my bokeh submission was great but now my score is about 5. Now I don't think it's great anymore. It isn't creative and the idea is lame. I like the lighting though. Now I've another photo that I will submit to Motion Blur. I think that is awesome. I expect it to score above 8. Let's wait until it has been voted down to 5.

It seems alittle dark, the horizon is off, color is not realistic to me(even though my monitor is 15 years old), I do not like flowers, especially yellow ones, the composition seems average as well as the cropping could have been better. There is too much noise and it appears it is out of focus a little bit( My reading glasses are atleast 2 year old). I do not like the lavender frame you put around the image. Too me, Just take another picture and resubmit. This is terrible.

MK found it...spooky.
and didn't have much good to day about it - but what she did say at least helps me understand the overall score. She saw flaws I ignored, and didn't mention one(s) i saw. I have learned!

Just don't have too many fuzzy nayvils and get that cornfused, or you might end up exposing old man Dof to children in the dark, and that would be shallow indeed.

Sorry, but tt's that time of the afternoon when I get punchy.

I, too, entered what I thought was a very good depiction of bokeh. I am now ''hovering'' between 5.6 & 5.7 with many WOW factor comments and just overall gushing...
But I got a ''FAVORITE" and that makes me feel best!
Thanks to who ever asked for it to be added to your list.
