ahhhh! Where does this fit in compared to the 10D?
(I just got hired for weekend work at a camera dealer, so I will probably end up buying something very expensive after being surrounded by the stuff all day).
I guess I should start reading this. |

I noticed it has a bulb setting???? As someone who really loves time exposures, and trial and error, I was looking around for this earlier. I don't seem to remember finding this, even on the 10-d or 1-d. Would someone correct me? Isn't there some thing about digitals actually heating up after a several minute exposure? (I know some of you know the anatomy of digital cams well)
If I had this, I could bury the old film SLR. |

| Seems like Canon took care of the minor details I gripe about. I like the navigation buttons on this new one. I also like the fact that the two LCD screens are side by side, unlike in the 10D. It also has better, less-compressed jpegs (3.2M as opposed to 10D's 2.4). But then for people who use raw files, this is a minor point. |

The 10D has it. You have to switch the mode to M then turn the shutter to "bulb." You can expose for as long as the battery lasts! (of course, I have not tried it that long, but it's doable if needed - for star tracking experiments for instance).
[had to edit. It isn't 999 sec, it's the battery supply that will determine how long the bulb exposure can go. The 999 is just the max number you'll see on the LCD panel]

ahh, i missed that. Sixteen minutes (roughly), thats pretty fun. I think the description I read must have left that out, or assumed I already knew it was there. I'm pretty sure the D60 doesn't have it (wrong again??)
Anyone else have a digital with a bulb setting? This will ultimately narrow down the cameras I would be interested in.
Do these EOS Digitals have the old option of multiple exposures on the one frame?... or do I have to make that work afterwards on photoshop

| The Nikon CP 5700 has a bulb setting. It's not a DSLR though. |

I made an error. It isn't just 999 sec, but much longer - for as long as the battery is running. 999 is just the maximum number the panel will tell you.

Like to know about that camera. Stupid FlashPlayer is unbearable, even on cable! Best check dpreview.com

Doesn't look like they've done much except move around the controls (let's not forget the impressive name change).
The real deal is the introduction of this EF-S 18-55mm lens.
At least they didn't try to squeeze more pixels into that small sensor. They probably didn't fix Dep mode and it sure looks like there's no split channel histogram. |

will it be cheaper then the 10D
I think it has a cheapo kind of look to it ..

Looks like slightly less functional 10D in a less robust body. Burst mode is limited to 2.5fps/4 shots as against the 10D's 3fps/9 shots. Goes up to ISO1600 against the 10D's 3200. There are other differences too.
The Canon Germany site has an official price of 1099€ (about £800) body only or 1199€ with the 18-55mm EF-S lens. Note that this lens is only usable on the 300D. This price is equivalent to $1200, but US prices are always cheaper than European ones. For example, the 10D goes in the UK for about £1250 body only. So I'd guess this camera would cost about $800-900 in the US.

Details are sketchy, but it does support all EF lenses. The new lens is an EF-S. Who knows what would happen if you tried mounting the EF-S on a non-300D cam. |

In the manual they say that it can be on in 2 1/2 hour with full battery power |

Well, lookie that. I thought it was a hoax, but sure enough is looks real. It sure has created a big buzz at DPReview.com. It looks like the the D300 is very similar to the 10D. A quick look at specs and forums seems to indicate the only difference is 2.5 frames per second (fps) with 4 continuous shots, as opposed ot 3 fps/9shots on the 10D.
Very strange. I can't see wait to see what will be in the US.
One thing ... silver body : Eeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Canon will really penetrate the DSLR market with this one if the price is right.

The Canon D60 has a bulb setting also.

You're kidding! I am hoping to TAKE the D-60 off of a family member the next time I visit the U.S.A. She told me it does not have the BULB setting. Next flight for me. |

geez.
if this thing is spec'd almost identical to the 10D, what was even the POINT of the 10D?
and why would anyone keep wanting to buy 10D's now that this camera came out (less than 5 months after)?
any ideas?

almost but not quite there...
I´d think the point of the 300D is to expand even further with the DSLR and make it affordable for almost anyone.
its all marketing :p
