...to persue a career in photography!!! Whoohoo!!! I am so pshyched about this!!! :D

I finally did what I have been dreaming about for the last year or so. You see, here in Iceland, photography as a career isn´t really open to everyone. It´s classified as an industry profession so you first have to go to school, then work for a photographer for 1 year before you can pass a test and get certified as a photographer. The process is exactly the same as for carpentry or masonry, plumbing and such and while I personally think that´s rediculous to classify photography that way, that´s just the way it is here and I have accepted that a long time ago. It means that if noone will take you on as a student for that year, you can´t get a license to work as a photographer. Well the thing is that I just found a guy this spring that is willing to take me on as a student when I am finished with the school wich is approximately 1 year.

Well I just took the first step towards this, I just quit my job yesterday! Here you have 3 months of notice and then I´ll take my summer vacation and start school in August. Hopefully in about 2 years I´ll be a certified photographer and can either keep working for the guy that is going to help me out or if he doesn´t want anything to do with me, start my own company :D

I feel like I am taking a huge risk but I feel I must. I absolutely live for photography and have no doubt my determination will only increase, the only thing that comes before photography is my wife and kids. Seriously, I am a guy and I almost think about photography more than sex! This decision means that we´ll be pretty much broke for the next 2 years and will have a huge impact on our lives but I have Henný´s full support (she is awesome by the way, best wife in the world). This means that my future livelyhood will depend on how good I am with the camera! Well at least if I crash and burn I´ll know I gave it my best shot and I can put my dream of being a pro photographer behind me.

Who wants to be the first to congratulate me, or for that matter tell me that I suck and should forget about this alltogether...?

in five years, when your first solo fashion book gets published, i'm going to buy 2 - one for work and one for home. When people look at and say how wonderful it is, I'll say, "Yeah, he's pretty good. I competed against him once in a color studio portrait challenge. I won of course, but the kid's got heart."

:)

congratulations

I really wish you good luck , the most important is that you have the support of your family.
Chasing dreams can be like chasing dragons/illusions but the results sometimes are more than one expected. (As icelandic you probably will agree with me that dragons exist !)

In bad moments never forget your dream ,the path has obstacles, could appear too long but with your strengh and the support of your loved ones... Go ahead !

Based on the quality of your work, you'll have no problem!

Just beware of 'falling out of love with photography' when you are getting paid to do it.

After working as a TV cameraman for many years it took a while for my youthful passion for creating images to return :-)

Congratualtions! That is a huge step you are taking, and something that takes a lot of courage. Be confident in yourself and know that your work is outstanding and well-respected. You will have no problem with the talent that you have. Best of luck to you in your endeavor.

That's brilliant news. I am a firm believer of following your passion, if the dream is realistic and you've got talent. (Which you've definately got).Decisions are difficult, but as they say-nothing ventured, nothing gained.May God guide you.
