I tried working with the background but it was just too distracting.

Goodman, just got a quick question for you. I have always really liked your work and you have managed to capture unique individuals time and time again. Just wondering how you approach each situation. Do you ask these people first if you can take their picture and talk with them or do you just snap away.

Getting into candids like you is something I have always wanted to do, but I always hesitate to break out my camera during moments like these for fear of a reaction from the individual.

jason, i walk around like a tourist, people expect tourists to take

Well... - first of all I desaturated the whole image but red
- then in another layer I desturated all but the old lady
- levels layer and curves layer and played arround a bit :)
- color balance layer to give just a hint of yellow to the
wall
- in selective color I changed the red in orange
- lots of burning and a little dodge on the face
- and finally USM: 20%/0.8 radius
