I am about to make the plunge and buy the Nikon D200, but was hoping to get more opinions from all the Nikon users. I have a big thumbs up from Kiwiness and Hotpasta, as they have had no issues with their purchases and love the D200. Has anyone had any difficulties with their D200's and/or prefer a different Nikon model? I am aware of the banding issues with the D200, but those were from the very 1st cameras to hit the market.

It's a great camera.

Good choice from what I hear. If I were to buy a camera today, I would buy the D200. If I had only waited a few months, I would have had a D200. Of course, I bought the D70s before the 200 came out.

Good luck.

As a Canon user I'd still say go for it. Looks like a reaallllly sweet deal and I've only heard good stuff about it.

I've been extremely happy with my D200. If you want a nitpick I can only really come up with one. The MB-D200 grip is not as comfortable or ergonomic as the built in vertical grip in the D2X and D2Hs and actually makes it slightly taller than either of them as well. I actually had to go buy a new backpack so it would fit with the grip attached!! My old backpack would just close with my F5 in it. It wasn't even close to closing with the D200/MB-D200 combo. Is it a $2000 problem that would justify buying the D2X or D2Hs instead? I don't think so...

Do you have any negative comments about the D70? If you could change anything about it, what would it be?

I love my D70s it rocks. If I could change one thing about it would be to make it a D2X. :)

When I bought my D2X it was a choice between that and renewing my car. I have no regrets about going for the camera :-)

I would LOVE to buy the D2X, but would be terrified to take it out of the house. I couldnt imagine what I would do if someone stole it from me. I think I would have to chain it to my body!! :-)

Well, it's been a GREAT camera so far. I guess one thing that is a little annoying is the size of the view finder. When I look through the window, the picture is very small. On my Nikon 8008 (35mm film camera) when I peak into the view finder it's like looking at a big screen TV and the D70 is like looking at a 19" TV. Other than that, the D70 has been great. I think ISO 100 would be nice, but not necessary. To me, the D200 would be perfect because I believe it offers ISO 100 and they make a view finder magnifier for it and it is 10 MPs, so that would be an improvement from the D70s 6 MP.

These are pretty nitpicky, so all in all, I love my D70s. Have fun with your D200 when you get it.

Check with any insurance company, such as one you may already have some sort of insurance with. I have renter's insurance with State Farm which covers my camera as long as I am not a professional photographer. I pay less than $100 a year and it's well worth it now that I no longer have any anxiety about having my equipment stolen.

Yeah but my home owners only covers the camera if stolen from my house and I have that equipment rider. The insurance above covers the camera anywhere in the world for theft and damage and you only pay the deductable if stolen. I have looked and have yet to find a better deal on coverage for the money but I am open to a better deal.

No issues whatsoever.

I've shot 2100 pictures on 3 continents over the last 2 months. It's performed like a trouper. It's a little heavier than the D70 but not so much as you'd notice. It might be just a little noisier at high ISO, but less noisy at ISO 100 than the D70 at 200.

It feels like it is better built than the D70 ... and more sealed against dust and moisture. I've shot in light rain and snow with no issues. I've shot in 50 mph winds and rain with no issues.

Battery life might be just slightly less yhan the D70 because of the larger display ... but it may also be because I've switched to shooting Raw. Not sure the reason but it's not an issue for me.

In burst mode, it's faster than the D70 ... I really like that. And it may be just a little quieter.

Really pleased with my decision.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the advantage to shooting in the raw? Less PS work??? Just curious because this seems like a great option for a camera.

On the turn around time, was it a week or so? Where did u have to send it? I assume Nikon paid for all shipping and handling? Just curious in case I get unlucky. Also, what is the advantage to a split prism?
