Well, Indigo Butterfly (lovely name, by the way) your day will come! I'll look forward to meeting you.

Meanwhile, as we gathered at the Banker's Rock this morning - some of us really early - I discovered my brand-new 350 XT Rebel decided not to be a camera today. With 3 fresh batteries on hand, the Rebel refused to recognize any of them. No power, no camera. Fortunately, I always carry with me or in the car a point 'n shoot. the S70 came to the rescue.

So, picture this. Everyone else assembled has these monster lenses. Little Alice (well, not so little, but you understand the aliteration needed here) has her tiny Canon S70, hauled out of the handbag at the last minute.

So, anyhow, here are a few images from our very happy and fun day:

We're just getting started here...

I was taken by this carousel horse in a second story window

A Renaissance moment

Looking into a gaily decorated store
And of course, the MacDonald's Corporation

This was a fun shoot. Eventually the DPC community will be treated to a group photo, and us having a wonderful feast together at a local restaurant.

For all I know, some of our people, with incredible fortitude, are still there, taking pictures of the parade!

Super day, people!

It was so wonderful meeting everyone today! The GTG started with a very heartwarming hug from Alice ;) She's so sweet ;)

It was amazing to say the least. 14 people and 1 baby joined in our little photo shoot ;) I love meeting new people let alone these great and wonderful folks from DPC :)

Great images! I just got home from the festivities. I ended up walking to the BART station from the Embarcadero when the pre-parade festivities caught my eye. Needless to say, I ended up staying for another two hours taking photos. Here's the final tally so far - 3 batteries expended and 7 gigs of photos shot today! It's a good thing I brought my portable storgae drive ;) I'll grab dinner and qill post photos soon :)

Did anyone lose their hat?
I was just realised - the two times I've met dpcers (Rikki and Phil) I've lost a bit of headwear.

Glad you guys had a good time.

The day was clear and beautifullGrant street was decorated with banners and lanterns
Stalls selling various things to hang from rearview mirrors were plentifull
There were acrobats doing odd thingsthe crowds were thick enough that kids were safer on sholders
Philip checks to see if he got the shotRed the color of health and wealth was popular
preparations for the parade were beginning after two hours wading through the crowd it got tiring
So we all went off and ate lunch together

It was great fun meeting some new people, and seeing others I haven't seen in too long.Rikki how long will it be before we see what your 7 gigs produced? I thought I was snap happy. So when is the next one? Maybe I should finish processing yesterday's shots before I worry about that.

GREAT pictures, Brennan!

Your pictures really show that sea of bright reds and golds all down Grant Avenue during the crowded festival. And everywhere we looked there was either a street musician or a performer entertaining the crowds.

Perfect day, indeed.

Thanks, Alice. Can't wait to meet y'all too. :)
Hopefully, I'll be able to make the next GTG. The pictures I've seen so far are just fantastic! I know Daffodill Hill opens up some time in the Spring (although last year it closed due to bad weather)....
I'll drag my trusty point-and-shoot along and try to keep up.

It was great to meet you all yesterday ! what fun we had. Here are a few pics. My 2.2Gb CF card would not work with the D200 so I had to resort to using a 64Mb CF card and shoot at the lowest resolution/highest compression :-(

No, I didn't manage to sneak away with anyone's hat on this GTG, David. Next time... ;-)

I hope that Rasdub, Riggs, IndigoButterfly and anyone else we missed this time will be able to make it to the next GTG. Everyone who came was really nice so I promise you'll enjoy meeting them!

Oh, I'm enjoying this day almost as much as yesterday, looking at all the impressions we took of that festival.

Because Mycelium tells us he's not feeling well, and he posted his group shots to the first of our threads, I'm going to repost them here so everyone can see some of the San Francisco Bay Area contingent of DPCers.

. .

Yes, we'll have to think up something else to do pretty soon.

Aight, I've got a few more pictures processed... Alice, thanks for the repost in this thread - I would have done that myself, but I was really feeling awful yesterday, and spent most of my waking hours plopped in front of the TV, watching Soylent Green and then the Olympics.

looking up the McDonald's flag thing

heading down a side street

chinese acrobats

lovable old guy with balloon

cute kid with balloons

more are coming!

Dang, why do you all have to meet now? I'll be in San Francisco March 17th and 18th. I'll only be free on the evening of the 17th. If anybody lives closer than Rikki and wants to do some night shots, give me a holler. I think I'll head out either way for some pics.
