Hi there,

I'm thrilled to tell you guys that I just got my new D200 this morning !!
Couldn't belive it when I saw the email from my dealer saying that I could pick it up as soon as I wanted. I have just posted on dpreview and nikonian so sorry if you have already read that post :)

First of all this is a really Wowww, too bad I had to go to work this afternoon so I had almost no time to play with it. However, I took some pictures when I opened the box.

Too bad the battery was not changed so I have no samples right now to show you guys. It's charging as I speak so that I'll be able to shoot tonight and post some samples.

This body feels really good in my hand, it feels really strong, really pro compared to the D70. It's heavy but not too much, just enough to tell you "Wow, I'd better put that down, it feels expensive :)" if it's not yours. The LCD is huge compared to the D70, I guess it's the same size as the one on the D2X. That's all I can tell you right now.
I'll tell you more about it as soon as I get back from work.

Here is the address to a quick generated web gallery containing some pictures of the box, body and a side by side photo with his little bro the D70 (taken with my girlfrient point&shoot kodak cam)

Sorry I'm no Product photography pro so I have neither the lightning equipment nor the skills to produce perfect pictures so please be tolerant :)

I will get mine this Saturday. Nikon Thailand called me up this afternoon to confirm this. I guess the price is okay; around 1,700 USD for just the body. I need to buy the battery I think.

I am quite excited about it. But I won't be able to explore it til I get back home to the Philippines in two weeks. Quite busy marking papers and computing grades.:)

Thanks !!

Don't worry I'll enjoy :)
I know it's not gonna make me a better photographer but well, I won't be able to blame the camera now ! :p

Sorry for the non-clickable link :)

Man I'm dying to get out of my office, run to my car and get back to test my new D200 !! But hey, gotta to pay for it now I guess :)

Wow Congratulations,
It looks like a really nice camera and if the imaging is similar to the D2X, it should have excellent imaging qualities as well.

I'd definately say it's the best value right now.

Wow, I've been playing all evening with my new baby ..
I have to say, this is one hell of a camera. But there's a little tiny weeny hiccup ... Neither Photoshop CS2 Camera raw nor Apple Aperture is able to open the new D200 NEF files :(
You need Nikon Capture 4.4 or later to be able to do so.
Since I don't have it, I'm stuck with shooting in Jpeg for now :( So all my shots from last evening are lost until Camera raw or aperture can open them.

The other negative point is that, as expected, I can't use the really handy ML-L3 tiny IR remote controler. This is really too bad but well the D200 has a timer mode (which stays on at last contrary to the D70 on which you had to set it back on after each shot).

Anyway beside that, this is really a wonderfull camera, image quality is awesome, build quality incredible, the viewfinder is much much better that the D70 VF, AF is fast and terrific, even built-in Flash is good but what's really great is the ability to command wirelessly SB800/600, which was also available on the D70, BUT now you can make groups and setup flash ev for each group and even turn the built-in flash off (usefull !!)

Well, I realize that I'm not giving you much more that we expected in a previous thread but well you gotta try one in your own hands ... Wonderfull (Now my poor english vocabulary is lacking synomyns to tell you it's great :)) Congrats to people who are about to receive it, great choice guys :)

I'll post some sample as soon as I'm done reading the manual and setting it up correctly.

Now is time to sell that D70, I guess I won't be using it anymore and I'm no pro enough to need a backup body. If anyone is interrested by the way :)

As someone said before (don't remember who actually), cameras don't take photographs, people do. I have a lot of work to do to be up to what the D200 has to offer :) Time to get busy ! But I gotta go to work now, I still have to pay for it :)

The camera didn't ship with Nikon Capture bundled? I find that very odd... You should be able to download it from the Nikon site once you've registered the camera, though...? And you can do that online...?

Hi Neurowork, just been reading about your new "baby". Thanks for sharing as it's been helpful for me who's still perusing the market for my eventual upgrade.

Just saw that you're based in Paris. Could you tell me where you bought yours from and for how much? I live in Versailles and wondered if we're looking at more or less the same sources.

Usually the camera is shipped with a trial version of Nikon Capture. You can use it for thirty days.

Nikon Capture is not included, you need to BUY it from Nikon....Unacceptable if you ask me....

Actually, the D200 is bundled with Picture Project but well, I don't really like it. I have tried the Nikon Capture Trial but it's really really slow on my mac. Camera Raw is much much faster !

It doesn't come with a lense either, you need to buy it from Nikon. Unacceptable if you ask me.

IMO Nikon Capture is a pretty decent program and worth the money. It's not like the RAW converter crap some other manufacturers supply with their camera. Slow perhaps, but great quality.

I've seen comparisons of Nikon Capture, Capture One and ACR. All do a similar job at RAW conversion with varying degrees of control.

A trial version of Nikon Capture is usually included, at least it was in the past.

Has anybody seen any good images posted on the Net from the D200?

Nikonians has a few images that members took that aren't very good (terrible, in fact) so I'm hoping to see some great stuff, really, really soon.

It's driving me crazy

I appreciate the links but I have to admit that I haven't been impressed by many...if any, of the sample shots.

I hope it's the photographers and not the camera. It's hard to believe but I only found three images that were IMO respectable.

One
Two
Three

These are the best I could find. Outside of that...nuthin. The lack of sharpness is killing me.

I hope as the deliveries start rolling out this improves greatly and quickly.
