I was wondering if anyone likes to brew their own espresso at home. If so what machines do you have and what type of blend of coffee do you like? Any good recipes?

Yeah. I do. I use Cuban coffee if I can find it, it's the best.

I have one of those machines, but I hardly ever use it. Instead I use the little on the stove espresso cookers (like they sell at Italian food stores) - I have a couple of those.

My wife's the expert...

My recipe is just to pack that little thing full of as much as it will hold until the hot water can barely trickle through. ;-)

I have a Krupps capuccino machine and it froths the milk very nicely. 2/3 of a cup of skim milk produces enough froth to top a 2 cup measure. For use in hot chocolate as well as coffee.

Espresso is traditionally made with a very dark-roasted coffee; contrary to expectation, these are generally lower in caffeine than light-roasted "canned" coffee.

I have a krupps machine, not a very fancy one at all, but it does let me get my espresso on, froth up some soy milk and blend, ummmm....

I use regular coffee, but I try to buy fresh beans and grind about 3 days worth at a time, this really helps for fresh flavor. the canned junk, like Folgers is not allowed into my house.

I like the Guatemala Antigua blend from starbucks, or the columbian roast

For convenience, the little pods are great. However, I haven't made espresso at home in quite a while...

I have the Krups Novo 3000 espresso machine. It's a pretty good machine that has a 15 bar pump. We use Lavazza espresso, which we're really happy with.

I use my machine every day, to make cappucino for my wife. She won't get out of bed until her coffee's ready...

I have worked in an espresso bar for a year now and would highly recommend a machine like this. Expensive, but very good quality. Probably the best machine while still sticking to consumer models.

I have a Krups Novo 3000 also, and really like it. I wore my old Krups machine out; I make espresso every single morning.

I use Starbucks or Illy pods when I'm in a hurry, they're great, various types of espresso beans from Starbucks to Bustello to Illy, but my favorite is Fresh Market Cafe a L'Orange, it is wonderful. The closest Fresh Market to me is in Williamsburg, VA, so I have it shipped here.

La Pavoni Professional Copper-Brass is the way to go. Combines very well with the Mokital blend, which is the same as Bar Italia in London uses. Yum. :)
