An ongoing contest for those in Wisconsin can be found here: //www.wiscwetlands.org/contest.htm

The Deadline is October 13th. The contest name, "Wetlands Up-Close," refers to the primary rule for submitted photographs - they must be close-up images, taken within a Wisconsin wetland, with the camera no further than six feet from the subject; landscape photos will not be accepted.

Damn, I wish I was anywhere near Wisconsin before October 13 - sounds like a cool competition!

Anyway - it's added to the calendar!

you are very welcome. I saw the poster at my local shop and thought it sounded interesting. I am hoping to get my feet wet this weekend and see if I can come up with some decent shots.

I have a free subscription to the monthly Art Deadlines newsletter (they also have a more extensive paid service). They collect and distribute info on all kinds of art competitions, including photography.

Hmmh. I went to that Art Deadlines website, and couldn't seem to find the free version. That is a bit annoying...

I do have a few sources for photo competitions online, but I think I can now officially announce that mine is the most current. Which is quite sad, really, especially considering that it isn't really that good. Yet.

SharQ - don't worry, we'll add more. I've put a few contests up and will continue to do so as I find them. I can't wait for the Olympus prizes to be announced. My office art picture is among them as is my symmetry picture. I'm really anxious to see my office art pic tho.

Keep up the great work. I'll do my best to keep contests coming. I know of a couple more but I need contacts before I post them. - Bob

Same here.. I tried for a long time find the free link to the Art Deadlines website and could not find one. Is any body paying them and have full access? IS it worth the money? If any one has any first hand experience, I would love to know!

I am not sure of the deadline on this but another contest for those in Wisconsin:

The Wisconsin Weather Calendar will be back by popular demand this year. The News 3 weather team calender is filled with local weather information and beautiful photos of the area.

If you want your photo of a beautiful Wisconsin scene to be considered as a featured picture in the 2004 calendar, just send your favorite non-returnable horizontal-format, color photos to WISC-TV3.

If your photo is selected, you'll get credit in the 2004 calendar and WISC-TV will send you some calendars for free.

There are no size requirements for sending photos, but they should be in a horizontal format. Most people send 4-by-6 inches or larger.

Mail to:

WISC-TV Weather Calendar Photos
c/o Gary Cannalte
WISC-TV Chief Meteorologist
P.O. Box 44965
Madison, WI 53744-4965

edited to clarify this is for the 2004 calendar - sorry for any confusion!

I would guess that the deadline for this thing is long gone - especially considering we are already halfway through 2003. Unless you mistyped and are talking about the 2004 calendar?

SharQ - Thanks for the reminder of the AGFA Photo Competition. I don't see any mention of submission rules for height/width and file size of one's photo. SHould we assume that it is the same as DPC?

I.e 640 pixels across? I don't think so, mate. I didn't submit, but when I do, it's gonna be 1500-1000 pixels across. The 640 rule is arbitrary and not really the standard. I would go for at least 800*600 at a low-compression (JPEG 10 if you use photoshop 7) JPG format. I guess the file size should be around 300-500 K

Hope this helps ;)

I think I know something about this - the AGFA photo entry can not be larger than 1 MB, so you can enter quite a large picture. I tend to forget the exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure it's 1 MB.
