I just received the new Canon 24-105mm lens from B&H Photo online.

Does anyone have any feedback on the lens quality and image results? I have not had a chance to try it out much. I am taking this lens on my New England foliage trip next week. Its smaller and lighter than other "L" lens. It would be ideal when traveling light, especially hiking and not to mention at busy airports, thanks.

You're a lucky man! I was just doing some research on the lens today. Everywhere I looked to purchase on showed as being "back-ordered" and a number of sites said the lens was going to be released on Nov 1.

Post some pics when you can.

Yes indeed. I was lucky. B&Hphoto sent me a email and notified me that they had it in stock. They knew I was on the hunt for this lens. I ordered immediatley the same day. As soon as I sent in the order it was back ordered. I am not sure how many copies they had. In fact I followed up my order with a phone call to them to verified that it was in stock for me. B&H has always done a great job for me.

Yes I will post some ASAP. Like I said I have not had a good chance to work with it. I am anxious though to try it out next week in NYC, Vermont, New Hamphire, Connecticut, and Maine. It should work well with my Canon 1D MK II.

Only review I've seen so far.

There's another (brief) thread about this lens as well. It includes a few links, including a link to a Fred Miranda review as well as a link to a few of my shots using it on flickr (perhaps not the best representative of what it is capable of :)).

I have a copy and ma loving it on my 20D...

Tried one in the shop on my 20D, and on the shop's 5D with my card...

Only took 20 shots with it, and it seems very nice. Pixel peeping at the shots at home didn't show any major issues, although shots inside a shop will never show up much.

On the 5D it had a bit of CA at the wide end at F/4, but what lens dosn't?

IS was very effective in the one test I did, hand held at 1/30th and 105mm got a pin sharp image.

Not sure I'd get one (I have a fast glass addiction.) but it covers a good range in a much ligher package than the 24-70.

I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Cheers, Me.
