How many Newfoundlanders or ex-Newfoundlanders do we have here at DPC?

I live in St. John's (have lived here for 6 years), was born in Stephenville and lived most of my life in Deer Lake.

Hi everyone, to answer your question Owen, Minutia is my boyfriend. For those of you from Eastport I used to spend summers there with my Aunt and Uncle(Anne Crawford and Kevin Major), She was a teacher and he is a fairly well known Newfoundland Author.

Were you with Tommy the other day at the Port au Port Agricultural Fair? I think I may have seen you pass by my table.

I was just talking about Kevin Major the other day. He was librarian at our school for a few years, too. His work was controversial in NL but he's a great talent.

Kevin Major's books

Hey, I just heard a wonderful documentary on CBC Radio called "Farmers helping Farmers", an organization from Newfoundland which has gone to Kenya and Tanzania to donate time, money, supplies and wisdom to the farmers there.

Does anybody know anyone who is a part of that? If so, please hug them and tell them it's from some guy in Ontario.

Cool, I never heard abou that but it sounds like something a Newfie would do...We have very big hearts

Yea I never heard of it either. Something like Farm-Aid? But with Great Big Sea instead of Willie Nelson. *giggle*.

I don't know any farmers in NL so the chances that I know someone involved is slim.

I cant claim to be a real Newfoundlander, but I spent a year (1990) working in Botwood, and was even "screeched in".

Hello to all New-fun-lander :)
Inukshuk...I landed on the rock 27 months ago,was screached successfully before I even knew whats happening:) Cann't call myself a Newfy but perhaps fall in the catagory of "poofy" according to "shawn Majumder" (just for laughs). First year was overwhelming with the intensity & heaps of snow. This year I learnt about Capelins & enjoyed the whales a lot and going to learn walking with those big snow shoes :)I am loving exploring this beautiful area but really miss the vegetation for those perfect Candian fall colors :'( Any tips where to go?
Wish I could see Aurora Borealis without going to stay in some remote Labrador area in winter (as I am told). Plzzzz keep me posted for any such chances. Thanks :)

Hi Nonage. The Northern Lights can be seen from most parts of the island but it's probably a little rarer in the more populated areas such as St. John's due "light" polution. On a clear night cold night drive outside the city where there is little in the way of habitation and you may get lucky.

BTW, sorry to hear about the devestation from the earthquake that has affected yours friends.

Thank you Russel for your kind words. Two of my own friends have lost their mother in earthquake. Her body was found after a week of digging the rubble. I cann't thank God enough for keeping my family safe living 5 minutes walk from the most effected area. Another Pakistani lady I know has lost 27 of her family members living in Muzaffarabad. Its one sad story after the other and death toll is rising day by day. I request all DPC friends to Plz remember in prayers in this time of need. Thank you.
