I was saddened to see my picture had been disqualified because of a border. I didn't know it was there or how if even got there. I have asked if I fixed it if I could re-submit, but I now feel that wouldn't be fair. I broke a rule, unknowingly, so I shouldn't be in this challenge.
I have a favor to ask of those of you who visit this forum... please look at my picture and let me know what you would have scored it. I worked really hard on it and was very dissappointed to see it was disqualified. It would have been the only shot of it's kind in the challenge... I think it would have done well, but I'm bias. :)
Thanks and good luck to ALL of you who entered.

Sorry about the border.

It's a good shot, the DOF is good, but maybe get a little more focus on the bulb of the glass so you can get some crisp reflection off of it. Lighting could be a little brighter to bring out the white on the plastic.

I really like the composition and cropping, but there seems to be some discoloration to the right of the circle that is a little distracting to the flow.

All-in-all, a nice shot... somewhere between a 5 and 6

You didn't 'create' a border... what happend is that your image dimensions were not quite the required size for the challenge. You were slightly less than 640 pixels vertically and less than either 480 or 427 pixels in the other direction....

I agree with crabappl3 about the focus on the bulb, but otherwise it's a very good entry. I'd give it either a 7 or 8, but I'm a very easy grader. I like the composition a lot...

That's weird... when I did my resize, it was 640x480... I even double checked it... or so I thought. I was curious on what might have happened.

Thanks. About the discoloration to the right of the picture... there is a flower on the thermometer and I had to get just a little of it in there otherwise I would have not gotten the "F".

In Photoshop, it's pretty easy to select "Canvas Size" instead of "Image Size," which would then fill in the extra area with the background color. The dialog boxes look a little alike, especially if you're rushing to meet a deadline, so if you are enlarging to the finished size this could happen. Yet another reason to work with larger images and re-size down.

Also what might have happened, is that you accidently moved the image slightly off then canvas when you selected it, without even noticing. This happened with me once but luckily I noticed it before Sunday night.

Nice composition, I would have givenn it a 5.

It would have gotten an 8 or a 9 from me...
