OK.....so Im extreamly bored today and trying to quit smoking and feeling a bit short tempered. I havent had a cig since 5pm lastnight. right now i am wishing i had never started smoking these damn things at all. I have promised my girls that i would quit for both thiers and my health but its sooo hard not to go buy that pack. but a promise is a promise and i NEVER break a promise. thats a lesson I want my girls to learn and know. If its worth promising then its worth keeping that promise.

To fill my boredom and keep myself busy i decided to take a few self portraits. this is the best of them(right now) but i plan to do some more later so i may be posting another for today with a better one. well...Im off to scrub something...anything. My poor walls wont have any paint left by tomorrow. I'm looking for some comments on my portfolio(including this one) and will be trading comment for comment to keep myself busy....help me not go buy that next pack and comment...pleaseeeeee

I know how hard it is to stop smoking, I was smoking just over two packs a day when I quit.
Keep busy, Take a self photo a day and number them. Reminds you how many days you'd give up of beign smokefree.
Good Luck!!

ummmm, a gun might be a bit of an overstatement.

I would recommend gum instead. heheheheh

Just joking with ya.

Hang tough Cher. I know it is hard, I quit smoking 9 years ago or so and it was the hardest thing I ever did.

For what it is worth I thought the patch was awesome as an aid to quitting. It really took the edge off and helped me break the nicotine addiction more gradually.

Did it four years ago. No fun.

Sleep lots, and drink 100 real orange juice. Takes the edge off a bit.

Not an easy thing to do, but very possable if the motivation is right.

Good Luck.

Been quit now for like six months. Don't count the days just remember you promised your kids and you want to be around and watch them grow. NOT hooked up to a oxygen machine. Buy lots of gum the Trident Orange and Cinnamon work best for me. After about a month the cravings start going away. I am now to the point I can smell it and I think to myself "I walked around smelling like that?" Hang in there you will make it!!!!!!!!

I should really quit, I smoke about 200 a week, I enjoy them thats the problem! I even stopped for 10 years and then started up again after drinking too much and smoking one of my sons cigars. My bad.

So I have the utmost admiration for you folks that stick to your guns. I just think of all the 'L' glass I could have bought with the amount of money I have spent on smoking. My stupid

Maybe one day soon I will have a serious talk to myself and get off these.

For your sake, I hope it's sooner rather than later.

Don't think of things like "L" lenses, think of all the days of your life you are burning up with each smoke. Days you could play with your S.O., kids, grandkids or other loved ones.

That should be motivation enough to make your mind stronger than your addiction.

Let me have a serious chat with you, Mike! I quit 5 weeks ago, using patches...it is not as hard as I thought. I have slipped a couple of times, but basically I don't smoke anymore. If I do, then maybe I won't see next year. I'll be your shoulder, just let me know.

Ok Mike, I will come out of the smoky closet to admit that I am a smoker. SAme reason - I really like it!!! It's my escape. And since I get the cartons from the Indian res for only 11.50, and they have no chemical additives (like commercial ones), I can't com, plain about the price - hey, I still like them! Let's not get into a nicotine debate either....

It's my only vice, so....

Hang in there....I smoke and it's hard I know, I've tried and then nearly gone crazy.....have a support team ready. Hmmm, I hear drink Green Tea, it suppose to clean out your system of foreign crud. Everthing that is in your black chared lungs to be frank. :)

Hmmm, day 1 photo, you seem happy...I'm wondering what day 5 will look like? Perhaps one of those grunge babies?...:)) Hang in there and it's wonderful that you doing this for you kids, this is a huge unselfish act of love. Blessings.

You can stop and you will stop cos you want to! Do it for your kids or come and join me as I await my next hospital appointment to see if my cancer has come back. I had a kidney removed earlier this year, due in part to smoking, that is why I have stopped. Damn, it is not easy, I enjoy a ciggie. But, if I don't stop I have a five year period when the cancer could come back.

Please, do it for your kids and husband.

Congratultaions for taking the first step, I gave up 4 months ago and found it much easier than I thought it would be.. I did use patches though, maybe you should consider this option, it really makes it a much more pleasant experience ;)

I tried to quit smoking with the patch but found it to be more of a pain in the ass cuz all it did was stick to my lips. I also tried the gum but couldn't keep it lit... Anyways goodluck and before your temper flares take a very deep breath before every sentence you make and never yell.

Here's a link to the list of stuff thats in the average cigarette

List

And my inspiration for this

Keep telling people you've given up and keep resisting the urge for one more day.

Good luck

Research studies show that it takes 21 days to create a habit...hang in there. Today is day 2, so only 19 more to go!!! :)

This is the absolute BEST gift you can give yourself and to your children. I'm proud of you, for whatever it's worth!

I am a great believer in fate - I have seen too many people make themselves miserable by giving up smoking, doing diets, keeping fit only for them to die. When I die I will die happy! I live for today and I dont worry about tomorrow. My wife would miss me, well so she says!, and I know that the rest of my family will miss me but like all of us they will survive and remember our happy times together. They even know what songs I want at my funeral and I know what my wife would like at hers. My attitude is ''do it now''! - dont wait just get on with it. My friend and workmate died this year. Barry was 62, he never smoked in his life, he was as fit as a fiddle, played badminton, cycled everywhere, was very careful what he ate and he looked about 40! However during his early worklife Barry came into contact with Asbestos. This lay dormant until July of last year (2004) when Barry started coughing a little. He then felt really rough and went to the doctor, Barry never came back to work. Barry was waiting to retire before he could enjoy hiself, well now he cant and my attitude has only been strengthed because of what happended to Barry - I miss Barry very much and we talk about him all the time.

So, if you are putting off going on that holiday, buying that car, or whatever - dont - just go and do it. Live while you can and remember the old saying ''your a long time dead''
