I actually won first prize with my photo in a contest sponsored by a local sculpture park. The contest was open to pros and amateurs alike and there were over 70 entries. I went to the exhibit and announcement of the winner today and I got first prize! ($300). Out of the top five, I had two of them - first and an honorable mention. I'm so exited!!! I actually talked to 2 of the 3 judges (one local pro, one local pro from the newspaper, and another pro) and they said this one just jumped out to all three of them as tops.

Thanks for helping me pick the winner to submit. Here is the winning shot:

EDIT: edited to update with an article from today's (Sunday's) paper about the contest. My 15 minutes of fame and I'm shamelessly tooting my own horn. I'm really glad they didn't print a photo OF me, however!

I remember you asking for advice.. and I remember being one [of many] that recommended the butterfly pic. Hm.. split those winnings about 30 ways.. and I think you owe us each $10!! LOL - jk of course :). Many congratulations on your winning photo - it's definitely a beauty and shows some unique character to the park.

I forgot to mention...in this morning's paper (Saturday's) there was a short blurb about the photos and the exhibit. They used my photo for that also, which was a nice surprise when I opened up the paper this morning. This was before the judging, and just happened to be the one the PR person liked and chose. They also had a reporter and took photos at the awards exhibit today.

Thanks so much for all your congratulations! I have really improved a great deal through my membership here. Details I would have never noticed, I now find myself examining in my work. Taking the time to comment on other's shots has also really improved my critiquing of my own work I think.

One quick bump. My first post in the thread has been updated to include a link to today's (Sunday) newspaper article and photo about the contest! :) I'm still psyched up about it, so thanks for putting up with my shameless boasting. You guys are the one place I think would surely understand the "high" from something like this!

Fantastic news. I rally thing DPC helps a little in this, honing your skills and ability in identifying candidate competition images.

Well done, now what you going to do to yop that? ;-)
