Hey guys,
I'm trying to find a definitive information concerning the batterypack from Canon.. Is it 10D AND 20D compatible, or is it different battery pack for each model?

| the BP-511 batterypack fits the powershot G line, 300D, 350D, 10D and 20D. and some others as well :) |

If I'm not mistaken, the 350D cannot make use of the BP-511. The 350D uses an NB-2LH which is the same battery used in the smaller point and shoot S-series cameras. |

The 20D uses a different battery than the 10D and the D60.
I have heard that there have been problems with the battery holder for the 20D. (Those may have been addressed by Canon at this point.) However, the new battery last so much longer, that some of the photographers I have talked to don't feel the need for the battery pack. |

now Im a little confused.. were you asking about the batterypack (powercell) or the vertical grip (batterypack)..
the batterypack for the 20D is the BP-511 and the vertical grip is the BG-E2.
for the 10D the batterypack is the BP-511 and the vertical grip is the BG-ED3
for the 300D the batterypack is the BP-511 and vertical grip is the BG-E1
for the 350XT the batteypack is the NB-2LH and the vertical grip is the BG-E3 |

| My ZR70 (MiniDV camcorder) uses it too, very versatile battery. |

I believe you have it right. What Mary Ann may have been referring to is that the 20D ships with the new BP-511a, which has slightly larger capacity than it's predecessor. Still, the 20D can accept the older BP-511, -512, and -514 formats. |

Ah crap, very sorry about this guys, i was thinking vertical grip but wrote batterypack.
I do mean the Vertical Grip (which you fix under the camera and store extra batteries in).
Is the Vertical grip for 10D and 20D the same?

Glad to hear that the batteries I have now will move up - if and when I ever replace my 10D.

Another thing to be aware of RedOak, I should have mentioned it in my previous post ....
The 20D battery pack is a far nicer unit than the one for the 10D.
It allows you to run off AA batteries in an emergency, using the provided AA battery holder that slides in and replaces the 2 511's.
It eats through batteries using AA's but is really great to get you out of trouble if you run out of charge.

I suddenly found I was getting less battery life, but figured out I was using my (older) BP 511, instead of the BP 511 A that we are meant to use with the 20D.
When I actually pay attention and use the right battery, I couldn't be happier with it. |
