Go for it. Canon's great, and reliable --- you always know you're getting the best in quality. :)

I'd be interested to know why? Especially if you have any Nikkor lenses.

I dont know what type of glass you have and how much it costs, but you may just lose more money selling all your nikon stuff and switching to the equivalent canon stuff than just buying a d2x.

The difference in price between a 20D and a D2X is .. uh.. quite a bit ;)

What is so great about the 20D that would make you switch completely to Canon?

How do you figure? The D2x cost around 5K and you can buy a new 20D for $1200.

I think that the advertisements sold me to canon and i had the oportunity to try the 20-D for a whole day, the scary part is that i have all this nikon gear that i don't know what to do with it.

camera:nikon D-100
flash: bs-28
lenses: tamron 28-70, sigma 70-300 and nikkor 50

I would like to know this as well. Loboz33, what happened to make you switch? I recently received my 20D and I'm blown away by how amazing this camera is.....but I don't see how it's much better than Canon. I've used the D70 before and it's an amazing camera as well. With only a very slight edge going to the canon for metal body and more ISO range you should expect it for the extra couple of hundred $.

If you had a problem with the Nikon company itself I can understand that but there really isn't anything about Canon that is THAT much better than Nikon and vice-versa.

That is not that much as far as an investment in equipment goes. If all your equipment is in good shape you can sell it on eBay without much of a loss. I sold a lens two weeks ago for $1,468. I had bought it new last year for $1,480. There are a lot of Nikon users right here on this site, so you might want to let them know the stuff is for sale.

If his lenses have been well taken care of he is not going to lose much at all. He has less then $1000 worth of lenses. How much could he lose?

Lobo, I honestly have to tell you that with this in mind the D70 is a much better fit for you. You'll have to spend so much money to to get the point with Canon that you currently are with Nikon. All you need is the D70 body and you're set. If you go with Canon you''re looking at a TON of money. Of course I'm bias towards Canon because I've invested a good amount in the Canon lens system but I honestly believe that Canon and Nikon are on par with each other. Go with the D70.

I heard there might be 2 new Nikon DSLRs coming out. It might be better if you tough if out and wait for Nikon's response to the 20D.

The D70 out did the Rebel.
Nikon might do it again, but challenge the 20D.

It's a gamble. I would wait.

If he goes with the D70 he is taking a step backward is the quality build and utility of the body. The D70 may have a better sensor but it's built on a prosumer SLR body where the D100 was a pro body.

Also, if you want the 20D just for more resolution, think again.

At 300 dpi, an 8 megapixel camera will only add an about 2-3 inches to a 6 megapixel.

I wouldn't exactly call the D100 a pro body. Nikon doesn't consider it one. It's based off the N80.

It doesn't quite work that way. All variable negated that may be true, but there are always variables.

If shot in Raw at 16bit a 6Mp Raw file opens to a 36Mb TIFF while a 8Mp Raw file opens to a 46Mb TIFF. That is a difference.

TRAITOR......LOL.

hey .. if the cap fits dude, you gotta go with the flow and listen to your feelings man.. if your heart is saying canon GO GET ONE, and a new set of lenses etc but dont forget to parcel up the D100 and ship it over to me I need a back-up to my D70 and that will do very nicely.. cheers Im waiting by the mailbox...

Canon will not magically make you a better photographer.
You will spend so much money switching and see no improvement in the final picture you take.

Probably not, but it'll make you less snobbish :)
