I think maybe we should start requiring EXIF information for CC. That might cut down on the number of critiques. If people can't take 1 minute extra per week to dig it out, why should we take 10-15 minutes per shot per week critiquing their shots? Am I asking too much?

Just venting a little and wondering what the consensus is here. Maybe I'm the only one who cares...

Exif data is nice if you are planning to critique the exposure choices, but don't forget that a lot of older model cameras don't record it...

if the exif data is not available, just comment on the image as you see it... if you think it's improperly exposed, mention it but don't worry about detail :)

can somebody explain how you "dig up" the exif data please?

If you can find ACDSEE 3.1 or higher, it will tell you what the exif data is when you right click on a photo and choose the Properties option on the menu.

There are a couple other programs available at Tucows that I know will do it also. I believe there is a link on the submit page that will tell you how more specifically.

Thumber also shows the EXIF data and there is a free demo version that works quite well.

Including EXIF data may or may not be a good idea.

I would judge certain images differently if I had that information. At this site folks seem to be enamored by images with shallow depth of field and there are lots of images that have it. I would have a tendency to rate them lower if I had the EXIF data and felt it did not contribute significantly to the quality of the image.

On the other hand, not having that information forces one to rate an image strictly on its esthetic qualities and it the final analysis that may be best.

Hate to drag an old thread back from it's peaceful resting place, but I've been considering this solution when i don't have EXIF data to go by...

Composition : (Whatever I'd normally say)

Exposure / Lighting : Lack of EXIF (Aperture/shutter/ISO) data limits anything I would say about exposure or focus. I wish I had that info since my critique is severely limited without it.

Focus : See Exposure.

Post Process : (Whatever I'd say which often depends on notes in the comment field)

Challenge / Wow : (Whatever I'd... well, you get the idea...)

If there is something obviously flawed with exposure or focus, naturally, I'd mention it...

I guess my question is, does anyone think I'm shortchanging folks by not commenting on exposure / focus if I don't get the data? If I see someone used a Mavica or another camera that doesn't supply that info, naturally I try to adjust accordingly.
