If you had input into building the ideal digital camera, what features would you incorporate? Remember, this is a Utopian digital dream so money is no option. Here's what I'd like to see:

1. Full frame sensor.
2. Universal lens mount.
3. Weather sealed.
4. Ultra sonic or other touchless sensor cleaning.
5. TTL, lagless, super-high definition EVF and LCD screen.
6. Upgradable Foveon or similar type sensor for higher dynamic range (and less need to blur images in-camera to prevent moire).
7. Wi-Fi
8. In camera anti-shake.

Most of these things are reality already but are not incorporated into one particular camera. What would you add or for that matter take away?

Big Buffer, high burst rate, USB 2.0 (pretty common now i think?) Let me know when they make all this affordable!

A sensor hardwired to my eyes with built in in-brain processing while the images could instantaniously be telepathically transmitted to my printer in high res. Beat that!

A build in GPS that imbeds the lat. long. for every photo.

Tripod mount under the optical axis of the lens. Mirror lockup.

San Bernardino, CA –January 18, 2005 - Ricoh Corporation a leader in specialized digital imaging devices today launched the Pro G3. The Pro G3 is a high-resolution digital camera that embeds captured images with GPS coordinate information received from either its on-board GPS unit or from external GPS devices.

Bullet-proof housing that allows the camera to handle an impact equivalent to being run over by an 18 wheeler after being dropped from a 737 at 30,000 feet.

Oh yeah, also scratch-proof everything, a lense that can go from say 5mm to 5000mm with an aperature range from 1 to 100, runs on movement like one of those Seiko watches, can shoot with non-visible spectrums of light or radiation, can drive my car when I'm tired, also has functionality of an MP3 player and electric shaver, and if you hold it just right it spits our $100 bills.

Oh, and it's silver!

Affordably costing ( >$100) hey, we can dream!

COME ON GUYS BE REALISTIC HERE! hehehehe
Instead of WiFi, make it Satellite back to my home puter and a vault safe for automatic archiving, keywording, and annotation.

Adaptive AI.. Camera's that learn how the user shoots and adjusts automatically for maximum performance.

A dual sensor option that would allow 3-D images.

It would no longer use a 'storage device' as the camera would have built in memory (I.E. instead of a place for a memory card it would house a 2gb memory drive)

Internal level with manual override.

GPS coordinate info for every image in the EXIF date and a can opener.

oh and maybe a small nuclear battery with a 15 year life time on 1 charge

Heck, if it's silver I don't want one.

me neither... blech

Yeah, definitely silver!

And it would generate a digital model release with telepathic signature recognition (and coercion) from the subject...

And, it would include an adaptive prediction feature for next week's DPC challenge. This feature would not only predict the challenge subject, but show you the 10 probable high scoring photos.

And, its black.

Actually, it's hyper colour...for those who are confident and awesome, it's silver. For those who rely on the internet to inform their fashion choices, it changes to black...

1. High-res viewfinder with pre- and review capacity and a real eye-cup behind it.2. Standard LCD with menu access only
3. Spot meter
4. Large mode dial (dial by touch) labeled with letters large enough to 'see'
5. Auto sensor cleaning
6. FW connectivity
7. A sturdy, large and hefty metal body without any light plastic parts, doors and attachments. A built-in battery grip accomodating as much capacity as possible
8. Built-in battery charger with an optionally purchasable solar panel or a separate optional charger with a hand-crank
9. Weather sealed with a weather-proof jacket that can be extended over the length of, say, a medium telephoto lens
10. A sensor with reduced highlight sensitivity and a velvia-like image characteristic
11. Well-insulated, cold resistant batteries.
12. A decent, adjustable elastic strap, wide around the neck, cable ends close to the camera, so nothing can fray (a better Tamrak strap, really)

A switchable sensor position so that a wide-angle lens is actually wide angle, but can switch to the 1.6 crop factor (or more) for telephoto. I don't know if that would work realistically, but what the heck?

All your suggestions are good! But I don't agree with the viewfinder one, prefer my optical viewfinder but would like one of those focus prisms like I had back in my graphic arts class in HS... Don't ask me what kind of 35mm slr it was... but this suggestion is great! I would like to expand upon it by suggesting instead of just velvia film recreation, how about an adjustable sensor that could mimic many different types of film with a turn of the large mode dial that happens to be labeled with offset letters large enough to see by touch...
