| A road sign, or any sign will do? ): |

Some will want the sign to have a direct connection to the function of the road, others will be fine as long as it is one that could be visible from the road and others still will be satisfied with any sign. Anything that you feel works is fine, but be forewarned the scores drop faster the further from obvious the topic connection is. :D

My experience on this site tells me that if it has nothing to do with a road then forget about it. :(

Absolutely agree - the voters need to be hit squarely between the eyes. Don't give them chance to say 'doesn't meet the challenge'.
The next thing is the WOW factor, you have to have WOW or its mid range scores all the way |

It can be, but it is up to you to make the connection obvious to the chosen audience ... and that can take some doing. ;)
