I've been looking around and asking concerning a potential Camera battery back (the one that attachs under a camera) for a Nikon D70 but so far, i haven't had any luck.

Anyone know if there is a chance of that happening?

From Nikon: 0%

By now there should be some third party ones available. A german company was working on one last time I checked.

Here is some other info:

Thanks for the tip guys... I'm seriously having second thoughts about my D70 now... :(

Can you exchange it for a D100 or D2H? The D100 supports a vertical grip and the D2H (and D1H) have grips built in. Kinda pricey still for the D2H but you might be able to find a good deal.

Yeah i though about the D2H... Its rather pricey and i'm not sure i'd like to purchase used. I bought my D70 new and am liking it a whole lot that way. As for the D100, I was under the impression that it was taking a step backward in terms of technology? The D70 is the 20D to canon, compared to the D100 and 10D...? (so to speak).

I really like Nikon, always did, but recently... their service really sucks... ahhhh life.

There is no question... A D100 would be a step backward in technology from a D70. It's real advantage is that it's build more for pro abuse than a D70. A D70 is pretty tough in itself, but not as tough as the D100.

I get over 1000 shots from my battery pack, and carry a second one charged and ready to roll. I've never shot over 1,000 shots in a day though, so can't imagine needing that battery pack add-on.

Are you driving continuous auto-focus on a 3000mm telescope for hours on end or what? :)

Actually, i have 2 batteries too and have never run out of "power" so to speak. I shoot only Manual (no auto-focus) and shoot only in RAW.

The idea behind the battery pack is the ergonomy of the whole thing, and a longer battery storage which lets you forget about power especially when traveling and such.

I doubt if you will see one by Nikon. I think that was one of their ways of separating it from the D100 wehn it first came out to justify the lower cost and make it more of a "Prosumer" camera, Besides, the next generation probably isn't too far behind. The batteries are also pretty efficient

Other than the grip issue (extra trigger for portrait shots) I don't know why anyone would need extra battery life. I shoot autofocus on a long zoom lens, use flash sonetimes and my battery last forever. I carry an extra but have, as of yet, never used a fully charged battery in a day.
