This looks nothing like my actual submition, Just thought I would post it for comments. It's not my usual style, I'm trying to explore different photographic territory.

Wow, that's beautiful, Eric! Can't wait to see what your actual submission must be like to be better than this. :)

It's really nice...the only problem is that it leans towards the right and is a little uncomfortable to look at.

I know that it's probably technically parallel with the horizon, but my eye isn't able to grasp that the barn is on a hill because it's been removed from that context in this photo, so it seems tilty!

The leaning trees and the angle of the wall add to this illusion...otherwise, it's gorgeous!

Gorgeous was exactly the word that I wanted to use!
10/21/2004 10:45:10 AM · #5
Beautiful Eric, I agree with the tilted looking comments, I had the same comments on this image some time ago even though it was the true angle.

Maybe a little more detail on the wall ?
Great image, keep up the good work,
Paul.

ps.Just being nosey, what filter system are you using ?

10/21/2004 10:47:59 AM · #6
very well done.

10/21/2004 10:48:59 AM · #7
Yeah, it does lean doesn't it?
The barn is parallel, but the image apears to lean...

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll work on the perspective.

To answer peecee, I use Cokin filters for drop in's and Tiffen for screw ons.

I wanted to submit something on the fall colors, something like this, but i think its not legal as it uses the dreamy effects

the thumbnail looks pretty blurred, you will have to view the image to see

Eric, I hope you keep exploring this type of photography -- this is awesome in my opinion. I love seeing someone with a style that works for them, like you, still go outside of that and try "new" things. This is more of the sort of photogrpahy I enjoy and you have a lot to give us in this area. Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for the comments all. I worked on the original (fixed the perspective) But I think I'm gonna go back out and re-shoot it the right way, instead of relying on PS to fix my errors! That's the best way for me to learn :P

Very nice image! But why would using the dreamy effects be illegal under the advanced editing rules?

Thanks Colin. I wasn't sure if these plug-ins are legal in advanced editing and don't want to be DQ as this would be my first free study

Wow... your outtake just landed in my Favorites file. Can't wait to see what you submitted for the challenge!

By the way, your "portfolio in progress" link within your signature needs to point to *your* portfolio. I was rather shocked when I clicked on it and my own portfolio came up! :-) You just need to put your id into the URL. It will look something like this:

P.S.
I just looked through your wedding photography site. VERY NICE!!!

These are a couple of excellent photos as well as the photos posted here. I will post my outtakes later. I entered something very different for myself. I am curious to see how it does. I know there will be some excellent photos.

Thanks DW!

I hope I fixed that...

I think I did, when I log out, i can click on it and find my portfolio.

It's been like that for like 2 weeks! :D

I figured someone had better tell you. :-)

apart from the colors I like the dramatic allocation of space very much : more than half goes to the wall and grass and the house takes up less space than the sky with clouds and tree branches - despite the slight leaning to the right effect , a great picture - and you call this an outtake ???

I submitted this photo to the Free Study but switched it for a photo I took this morning which I think will do better.

What are your thoughts on this one?

This is interesting. My outtakes (earlier in this thread) are also reflections and also from the Rideau Canal.

Here is the one I didn't enter. I hope I made the right choice... if not, there is always next month.

10/31/2004 06:58:31 PM · #24
I looked at your Rideau Canal photos, Colette...very nice! I was there for a day with my wife after spending a few days in Montreal a couple weeks ago...it was a very autumn-like, dreary day!

I'll prolly kick myself later, but this was mine. Although with out-takes like I have seen so far, I didn't have a chance anyhow! Great work all!
