I'm sitting in a coffee shop right now. I came here specially to submit my entry for free study using their free wifi because my landline and internet connection haven't been working for two days.

I sure hope it was worth the effort.

Hope I'll be back online soon.

That is dedication! Just a matter of time before your ankle bracelet alerts your parole officer.

Ha! I'd do that! LOL!

I hope it's working again soon!

Lol. I had got stuck in traffic one day coming home from school and the roll over was about to happen so I went into a McDonalds to enter something. This was a while ago...

I understand the commitment and very much appreciate it! Lol.

Here's to hoping your interwebzz gets back up and running soon! :)

Can't tell you how many times I've gone to Wi-Fi hot spots...all the time!!! Now I just use my cell phone as a hot spot...provided there's service....hmmm

Why are we talking about this as if it's either new or unusual???

I remember getting disgusted with my dial-up years ago and going elsewhere to enter challenges.

Is an obsession considered commitment?

Or something to get you committed?

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. :)

We should all be committed

We are all committed!

We've done that on vacation, found the local library and logged in :-)

for some reason my wi-fi didn't worked
luckily i saw an un-helicopter passing high in the sky
was able to flag it down
incredible the pilot told me he had heard from dpc,
his sister was a member, user name was -rose- or something
maybe you heard of her
it seems she was abducted by an ufo or the like of it
never saw her again
got my pic in
but unfortunately i was 2 min late

I think the ultimate commitment to DPC would be searching out WIFI to Vote! ---I say that as someone who doesn't vote nearly enough ;)

LOL, McDonald's got more of my business on my eclipse trip than I ever planned, 'cause they do have reliable wifi.

ETA: and the first place I usually logged onto was DPC...

Because it IS unusual for me. I don't have internet on my phone and that was the first time I've ever used the internet away from home. I had to dig out an old and very slow netbook running Windows XP which is a nightmare to use. Today I didn't have anything to upload so I'm using my kindle. Much better. I'm much happier on my desktop though, so I really hope my landline and adsl are back up and running before I have another photo to enter.

I was travelling earlier this year to Iceland in February and used the free Wifi to upload to DPC during transit at Helsinki Airport too. :)

I was being a little bit tongue-in-cheek when I said that, but having always lived in rural areas, there was not always a good internet connection for me. In my early days on DPC, a good ten years ago, I would literally burn images files to CD, and take 'em into work with me to enter challenges.

Times have changed......now I can upload them to, or take them, on my phone, and if I have cell service, I can enter from anywhere.

How do you resize on your phone, please?

I use an app called "Big Photo" for resizing on the iphone. I think I see some loss in sharpness with the resizing so you might want to check the quality after resizing or take abstracts:-)

Not long after 9/11 DPC had a challenge called "Bridges" (3/9/2003). I had the idea to take a picture of a multiple tiered bridge on the main beltway. I pulled over to the side of the road and was taking pictures when a state policeman pulled over behind my car with lights ablaze. I had a lot of explaining to do to convince the officer that I was taking the picture for a photo contest and that I was not planning a terrorist attack. he did a background check on me before letting me go with a severe warning. I had never given it a thought before I took the picture but I have been careful of my choice of topics ever since.

nowadays, if you enter an oversize picture DPC seems to automatically resize and compress as needed. It's not something I've seen happen myself, but I certainly have anecdotal evidence that this works. It probably wouldn't optimize IQ, but it would certainly be handy in a pinch.
ETA: I just tried if by uploading to the Extended FS a full-size, 6.2 Mb JPG image, and the challenge accepted it and resized it to 1200 and under 700kb, so it does work :-)

Interesting, because I wasn't able to do that last time I tried, which was I think the July FS.

(Throws hands up in air!) Sometimes I have NO idea what's going on in this weird 'n wonky place. Like rumors of white-whale sightings, I have periodically seen people saying they could do this. So I tried it myself and I could... On the other hand, other folks (like you) say they can't :-( I'm sure there's a rational explanation for this, but....

All I can suggest is that folks who may want to resort to this tactic should try it first, like NOW, to see if it works for them, then hold it in reserve until they need, assuming it does :-)
