Has anyone had issues with their laptop where they do not recognize the SD card slot reader?

I have uninstalled, reinstalled the SD driver and tried to update. I can not get it to read or to show up in my computer with the drive letter even.
The SD slot works on my other computer but not the main one I am using.
My photos still show up in my camera.

I am stumped a bit, Google is not being of much help

Baffles me too. I have a laptop and the SD card slot has never worked so I just plug in a USB reader. I should have really taken the laptop back but never got round to it:)

Some card readers will not read newer higher-capacity cards. I have an old external card reader which will only read cards 4GB or smaller. But that may be a different problem than if the the system doesn't see the device itself.

I have had a problem with my external card reader in Windows 10. If my pc was on and I plugged in the card reader it would not see it. The only way it works is for me to put the sd card into the reader and connect the reader before I turn the pc on, it works fine that way.

**I know it's not the same problem as the OP's , just thought I would mention it :-)

AAAA yeahhh I got it now, thank you Mike :-) What a weird way to do that, but it finally read it.

Any old Windows machine with the P/S2 mouse/keyboard connectors behaves like this too.
