I am really wanting a good telephoto lens, well, with my Pentax comes the 150-450 Pentax one, which now goes over 2k..
I have brought some other telephoto lenses with the pentax used I have tried a sigma and the tameron and have sent them both back because they were way to soft for my taste and did not give that sharpness clarity I like to see. One was leaving a very bad abberation and weird vinetting on the end (tameron). Sigma, blah! I was twice as disapointed in that one as well. Even in the sweet spots it did not give that sharpness I wanted. Yes, the settings were right and correct :-)

So, with that I was back down to my wide angle lenses only.

I can not justify that 2k price at all, I have everything I want in lenses in equipment except my telephoto. My longest lens right now is my 100 . Totally, unsatasifactory for my wildlife.

So, instead of that lens, I am thinking out loud of gaining a second back up camera with just the telephoto lens and then getting one 35mm prime lens, and this is what I am heavily looking at.

What I am leaning on is the Nikon 7100 and then getting the Nikkor 200-500. I have actually seen this lens in use and used wide open and come to say I have been quite impressed with the sharpness of it, makes me drool sadly LOL. But the price is still expensive but I can get use out of them both and can really think of using one. I have been using my dad's canon rebel for a back up with his 70-300 and it was another reason of going this direction. I really enjoyed having two cameras at one time ready for use instead of just exchanging them out all the time. They were on and ready to go at all times.
Maybe its too far off or way off course, but for now, this is what I am thinking of doing. Advice and suggestions are welcomed. Or just maybe talk me out of it too lol
I will still be keeping my main camera as the Pentax.

That site does not offer those lenses yet :-(

Most all the leneses I own are used except for my prime 100mm macro lens.. I brought the 16-45 for only $50

how about shorter lenses (200mm) with 2x teleconverters? you will need to use some fast glass or have a high iso capable body though.

I don't know anything about teleconverters or how they work. What details as far as the lenses/ camera do I need for something like that to work?
That would be an awesome option.

If you're not happy with the sharpness of the lenses you've tried before, you probably won't be happy with a teleconverter. And a major issue is that the TC cuts down light transmission by a full stop or so, meaning the autofocus will have less contrast to work with and will start "seeking" when you're trying to get it to lock on, if it works at all. I was using a borrowed 100-400mm on my Sony on my last trip, and I had to go with manual focus; OK for my scenics but far from ideal for wildlife...

That will be a very big issue for me. I had no clue TC did that there is a lot of learning to do about them from my end. I have heard about them, just do not know anything about them.

This telephoto will be used for my wildlife.

I will keep trying to find some used or refurbished but they are hard to find :))
