Hello. I have been part of this wonderful site since 2003. I have never had issues logging in or participating. But today I came back after few years not being active and when I clicked on the main page to see some challenge winnter I got this pop-up warning that turned my stomach. It reads like this:

-------------------
READ THIS

You are performing a denial of service attack against our website, stealing our computing resources, overloading our servers, and preventing our users and staff from accessing the site.

Your actions are in direct violation of both our terms of service and international criminal law. You are further in direct violation of international copyright treaties.

You have ignored our attempts to warn you by temporarily banning you from our site. You continue to attempt to evade our restrictions by changing address and network. Your behaviour is despicable.

You are hereby warned that if you continue to perform this denial of service attack against our site, we and the National Crime Agency will pursue criminal actions against you and your employer in your jurisdiction.

Logs of your attack have been sent to the National Crime Agency and to your upstream network providers.
-------------------

Can someone please explain to me what this is? Why am I receiving this notice anytime I click on anything on this site?

Thank you for all replies...

Pretty (very) sure this is not from DPC.
I'm guessing this is some form of Malware.

Updated this post since more than one person has received the warning ...
We shall get on it.

I'm no expert but you may want to try this or this.

I have mentioned it to SC - in case it is something that IS a problem with DPC.
Have you received the warning anywhere else online? Or any other strange warnings?

had exactly the same last week. I tried on 3 different computers and all had the same message (they were on different internet connections). My cellphone connection 4G was connecting without problems.
Btw, this message was only when (trying) to view pictures in the finished challenges.
After few hours all was working fine. I guess it was a problem on the DPC host server.
Didn't contact DPC at the moment

Thank you both.
SC has been alerted.
If anyone else receives the same of similar, please feel free to mention it.

Well, THAT's nasty! Have not seen this myself, but now SC is aware of the issue.

No, this is the first time I have received something like this. Never before or anywhere else. Some sites don't like people having "ad blocker", but this is not the case. It can participate here in the forum, or see my profile, but the minute I click on any image to see, I get the same warning over and over again.

Oh, and I am on Mac. Never have I ever encountered malware of this type...

Sounds like this IS a DPC issue.
Try logging out of DPC and clearing your cache. Not sure if that will work but maybe since it seems only a few are affected at this point.

We've been trying to deal with folks scraping our site with mixed results.

Are you using a proxy to browse? One of the IP addresses you used recently is flagged on www.projecthoneypot.org.

It sounds like the message might be a bit harsh, especially for false positives.

Oh. My. WORD.

THEY are onto us!

This is not cool.

I'm going down into our bunkers... I just hope I've stored enough wine.

I'm not kidding.

Ah, ok. I think I might know what the issues is. I have a PIA service. It's a yearly subscription. The reason I got it was that my internet provider tends to curb the speed of our internet based on what we are doing. They basically reduce the speed as they please... even though we are paying for certain download and upload speeds. (greedy bastards)... They do it anyway. So I got VPN.

I will test it withouth the PIA turned on. If it is the proxy, then I guess I will not use it when accessing dpc...

But today, I have the PIA turned on and everything is working ok... Thank you for fixing it.
