Been considering a long time but now made the choice....

I picked up by new Nikon D70 kit yesterday, with 18-70 lens and SB-600 flash unit. What a great looking camera. So excited. I have been reading the manual on the airplane home, got half way through and can't wait to try out the camera, so many possibilities, such logical controls.

Still keeping my Sony F707, especially for infrared. In a few weeks I'll post my experience with the switch, as input for anyone considering the same move. I think it will take some time to get used to, especially not having a live preview. I did use a full manual Praktica SLR in the past, so it does not come as surprise (Nikon won't like this comparison....)

Got to go and take pictures now...

Excellent, I have the d70 and the sb600. What a great combo. Check out the manual mode on the flash.

Congrats

Congratulations. I also recently joined the D70 club :)
I'm using a bit older flash, though, the SB-24. Works like a charm but the TTL doesn't work, but I knew that before I bought it.
Hope you have loads of fun like I do!

You already have 4 ribbons with the prosumer, you need more??? Natural talent and ability wasn't enough, you just had to tilt the playing field even more your way. :)

Congratulations and all the best with your new toy. Enjoy!

Congrats!!!! and welcome to the Team Nikon. I shoot with the D100 but if I had to do it all over again I would probably choose the d70.

Congratulations on your purchase decision. Nikon is a superior brand and the D70 is a fine product. You will benefit from great enjoyment from this camera for years to come.

Your new camera is a powerful tool offering unlimited possibilities for creativity and personal self fulfillment. You can use it to explore and discover, or simply to capture moments and freeze time in place. So, enjoy, learn and most of all, have fun.

First experiences today :

1) Where is the manual ? For example how do I select a different autofocus field ? (The Sony only had one field)
2) Wow , look at that !! The viewfinder is fantastic. So bright and sharp. I can now see whether something is in focus.
3) Better check the exposure afterwards. Check the highlights, the histogram. With the Sony, if the exposure looked good in the electronic viewfinder, also the final image looked good. That is of course no longer the case, no live preview anymore. The viewfinder always looks good, but the image might be far overexposed.
4) fast, fast, fast. Say no more.

more later

I am also a new owner of the D70. Picked mine up last week and have been having a ball taking rapid shots. Of course I am still reading the manual. At my age this takes re -reading before I can remember for more than a day at a time. I'm sure that this will all fall into place with lots of practice.

Back in June 2004, I committed to the purchase of the Nikon D2x. I traded in my two Nikon D1x camera bodies. I have paid in full for the new camera, but still await delivery. Then, I went to Photokina in Germany last month to see it. I do not yet have my own D2x camera in my hands but have seen it and played with it. I am told that I am scheduled to be customer number 5 in Canada to receive it. The famous director, David Cronenberg is apparently ahead of me in the number 4 slot - la-ti-da. We are told that the delivery date is expected to be Thursday, January 6, 2005.

Since I no longer have the two D1x camera bodies, I inserted the D2x name in as a placeholder within my DPC profile. I am only shooting with my various film cameras (F100, X-Pan, Nikon F, and medium format Hasselblads) and my D100 digital camera at this time.
