What to do in a terror attack

The basics... but... basics are necessary.

I personally appreciate your post, Lydia, esp in the wake of the horrific San Bernardino incident, but there are so many variables. They seem to depend on people being at work in an office building, with lots of coworkers and different types of door mechanisms, handy fire extinguishers etc.

But what if those don't exist in your workplace? Like what if the door is just a simple turn-the-handle type of doorkbnob or a lever one? Then a belt is useless. If you work alone, then you're probably going to end up just another statistic - unless you have the presence of mind to grab a pair of scissors (what if there aren't any scissors around?) with which to drive through the attacker's eye into their brainstem? If they haven't already shot you dead by then...after all there are very, very few spree killers going around doing this with knives, which would mean getting VERY close. Spree killers love them guns.

We have to start somewhere... Learning how to protect ourselves, especially if we're not allowed to shoot at the people who are shooting at us to kill us.

Getting our minds thinking about things we can do, is the first step.

how about What to do BEFORE a Terror(ist) Attack.

how about figuring out WHY there are such attacks.

how about examining WHY one may be a target.

how about Loving the Life that Is.

I may be a throwback, but I like to have nice underwear and warm socks just in case of any damn thing.

Special rule: you have to use your own belt are you will be disqualified.
This could be problematic for those just sitting outside at a café having a drink.
This vision is far more terrifying than the terrorists themselves, OMG.

Agreed. If this is your view of humanity the terrorists have already won.

I just hope this is some rather weird joke.

Sadly, it probably isn't.

I am certain that there are some old foggies like myself on this site that remember the "Nuclear Attack" drill.

You know the one where they told us to:
- loosen tie;
- remove glasses;
- take all sharp objects from your pockets;
- clasp your hands together and place behind your head;
- pull down on your head while bending over as far as you can; and,
- kiss your ass goodbye.

Some things one never forgets.

So sad that we even need this sort of "advice". But there has always been some horror we need to prepare for, as Ray pointed out.

considering how many people die of various causes, a driver safety video would be more helpful, or a video about getting off your chair in the workplace every single day and walking somewhere that isn't a vending machine.

I'm a combat experienced vet and my 357 is always with me, no need to barricade the door.

Uhm...that's not really an option here in Canada. Not for most of us anyway.

I could send you the link on how to apply... piece of cake. Mind you, once you are done you would have to keep it in an approved locked container, get a permit to convey to move it around, take all kinds of courses and other aggravating things to contend with.\

Should you ever need it, unless the person called to inform you of their intent and gave you a significant amount of lead time... then I fear you would be doomed.

Oh? How many people has your gun killed so far in a public, non-violent place?

:D

Thankfully outside of my time in the military I have not had to shoot anyone.

Your gun doesn't kill on its own then?

So... guns aren't as responsible as we have suspected, then...

Uh oh here go the ol gun thing again. I'm outta here.

Don't be outa here. My intent in the topic is to protect us... Forewarn us... About how to protect us from people who want to kill us.

That hasn't changed.

... and claymores by themselves don't kill and maim either. Does that mean we should all have access to them?

If everyone armed themselves to the teeth to defend themselves from the terrorists, those fanatic idiots wouldn't need to do anything at all, we'd be doing all the work for them.

Lol, and this is seen as a good thing?

Those laws ensure that guns are an offense only weapon.

Easier to make than to get a gun permit apparently..

This is such a sad state of affairs that there is now this much time and resources being utilized in preparing for things that shouldn't happen in the first place. Never mind that some of these "Safety Tips" are insane. Attack whomever is coming through the door????? Yeah.......I'm going to sign up to be the first one to get hurt/killed by intentionally starting the violence process. NOT!!!

I guess the absolutely insane impasse between the two extreme poles of the gun control issue are going to permanently p[revent any middle ground steps being taken. How stupid are we as a society?
