I am a volunteer mentor for BSOL (Brisbane Seniors OnLine) - a not-for-profit organization of volunteers helping senior citizens learn how to use their computer.
Apart from one-on-one mentoring, we also have monthly group sessions where we introduce a topic/software/process etc.
Ben, our area coordinator, will be helping people upgrade to Windows 10, and asked me to present a movie maker to the group after that’s settled. Ben says Windows Movie Maker no longer works with Win10, and that I will probably need to introduce “Movie Moments”. I looked up that app and found it only does 60 seconds clips, so that is rather pointless.

On MY computer, WMM seems to still work perfectly fine, or at least it looks that way, although I haven’t gone through the whole process yet.

So now I finally get to the bit where I ask for your input:

1) WMM on Windows 10 - yes or no? All my googling only comes up with “yes”

2) Any other suggestions? The program needs to be free and relatively simple (without being annoyingly automated and limited).

Thanks for your help

AFAIK, the answer to WMM on Win10 is "yes, but..." with the but being that it is not installed by default; it must be downloaded separately with a package called Windows Live Essentials 2012. From what I have read, WMM should still work under Win10, although some have had issues with graphics drivers.

Thanks for your input, Fritz.

Anyone else? Surely we must have a few video enthusiasts around here? It's for a good cause......

I just downloaded VLC from the windows store. Not sure if it can play your files, but you can give it a try. It's free ;)

I know VLC can PLAY just about anything, but I didn't know it has video EDITING / creating functions, too........ does it, really?

Sorry, you're right. It only can play. Guess I was to busy with finding a program that could play an old DVD. The "store" version of VLC couldn't, but the downloadable version (from the vlc site) is working great.

Just tried WMM (Windows 10, 64-bits). It works fine for me.

So that is another "yes", which is also helpful to me. Thanks for the vote.
