The first couple loved the edit, loved it enough to ask to have another engagement shoot in the summer wearing more traditional Japanese clothing. So that was good. Here's my second couple.

The first image is SOOTC (But cropped). I personal like all the edits, I was trying for a different feel on all of them.

The bride is a co-worker and friend. She asked for these photos after seeing the first couples. I sent her a couple of the SOOTC shots just because she wanted to show mom and dad. She was happy with SOOCT BUT I'm not. So, I was hoping for some advice. I'll be making an album of 20 photos for her. She's left it all up to me as far as which photos and what kind of edit. You can check out the gallery of photos here: //500px.com/HeavyJ/sets/tanaka password: tamami

Any and all advice welcome. The rain made things much harder than I expected.

the first thing that catches my eye is an off kilter horizon

The password doesnt work.

i prefer the second edit or third if you like the washed look. i'd also do something about the house in the upper right and fix the horizon.

Engagement shot ?

To me they don't seem that keen on each other.

Why are they so far apart?

And the background is very off putting.

But otherwise they are all ok.

Are you sure...just tried the password and it worked.

As for the photo I put here I was just getting started. I had to ease them into the whole process. The groom specifically asked for their wedding to NOT have the first kiss. The fact that it was raining that day meant no people around making it esier for the groom to let loose a little. If you can, check the 500px page (I'm sure the password is right, I'll check again when I get home.) and you'll see them get more comfortable with directions.

I prefer Edit 1. Took a look on 500px - a great batch of photos. I am sure they will be really pleased with them.

Did copy paste? I had that issue first and then when I actually typed in then it worked not sure while paste computer is adding extra space at the end.

Either Edit 1 or SOOC for me. I'm not too keen on the washed out look.

The set is wonderful. One thing I noticed is that you lost all the detail in the blacks (specifically and especially in their hair) when they are in the shaded areas, as in under the trees. These are less "successful" when compared to the images where we can see the outline of their head, and the texture of their hair. If you are not going to use off-camera flash, you need to adjust your settings when shooting in those areas.

Practicing for marriage.

Great set of photos. I did a similar shoot (on request for a friend) here in Boston under very similar conditions: beautiful public garden, rainy and fairly empty, and a hesitant groom. I have no real advice, as you've done a much better job than I did.

Thanks all for the advice.

I'm going to do a little more to bring detail back into some of the areas and maybe play around a bit with a few in PS, see if I can't get something out of that.
