Good morning and happy Good Friday DPL addicts

I have been getting annoyed by a sanford, FL number claiming to be a local internet provider that is trying to get personal information from me.. unfortunatly these A$$es are calling after 10:30 at night and at 6:30 in the AM.. I have called and reported to my local authorities and I have called to report it to the company that they "claim" to be from..
I knew right away after the normal business hours that they were a scam..

Why do poeple insist on bugging me? Don't they know I am not a person to be dealt with esp. if you really tick me off? I don't have to be nasty when I deal with people either, I have my own way and its not pretty..
They are dealing with the wrong person here and the good thing is I know how to fight and deal with them..

The number that is being used is 407-771-6400 and they might try claiming they are from different companies but wanted to put this out as a warning..

Have an awesome day!

Way to be on your toes.

You're right, these guys really need to check the time. I got a call last night at about 8pm from Nebraska. I says, "Ha, yeah right..." and rejected it without answering. After looking up the number, it's just a gallop poll of some sort, but my goodness, check the time people! When I was young and feisty I went off one some poor lady that called at 10:30pm. She said that she has no idea who she was calling or where they were. Her system just generated a number and called it.

Yes I worked for a call center and we had world wide numbers...

The system didn't care at all who they called, so I had to make sure I had a number list of the area codes to do time checks..

I also learned a secret from working there as well..
If you don't want to be on the phone lists you must say these exact words

Please take me off your list and "ANY OTHER" phone lists you have.

If you say your list, it will be for that company only.. I did not know that either but if you don't tell them any other lists you have, they are obligated to take ya off

Good to know, and thanks.

Mostly, if I happen to pick up, I just hang up. I used to feel awful about it, but not any more.

That 407 number looks like one that I keep getting with no one on the other line when I pick up. Never, never give personal info over the phone to these callers. They are always a scam of some sort. No legitimate business would cold call you asking for it.

I usually tell them I would love to purchase/donate/whatever, but the bankruptcy judge has all my credit cards. Though I do remember most of one of the account numbers, if that would help. I think is is the one that is over limit, but maybe they could help me get my limit raised? Please?

I have noticed that some of these auto dialers that start talking to you in a recording has an auto remove from the call list.

just keep pressing either the 9 key or the # key and you will get a recording stating you have been removed from the call list.
Also I when it is a number I don't recognize, I answer be never say anything, and then I just start pressing the same key over and over and sometimes in some repeating sequence to make it sound like I am a machine and not a human

I was glad to see this link. Even though (after checking) I've been continuously on the "do not call" list since 2003,
I still get 2 or 3 of these calls nearly every day. Most seem to be robocalls, so even hanging up the phone with a clatter
doesn't do much of any good.

Hmmmm, just read jab119's response. The "9" key? Nice hint. I'll try that one for sure.

You guys are no fun.

I take pity on these poor folks and let them know that I am genuinely interested and make a point of carrying the conversation on for as long as I can.

My daughter readily recognizes the fact of the type of call I am engaged in and after a while will yell out: "Get off the phone gramps and come take your meds".

These folks must have an aversion to old folks that take meds...I find that the number of calls I used to get has dropped off significantly.

It's probably not the old folks on meds they have an aversion to, but the oldfolksonmedswithminderslookingoutforthem.

If you think that telling them to take you off their list or pressing 9 or making threats or anything else like that will help... well if it makes you feel better, go for it. But in all honesty, it won't help a bit. Most of these people are calling from off shore from places our laws can't touch and they are either ripping off someone's SIP phone service are paying so little for each phone call that you would have to keep them talking for days before it would even start registering. It's just like email spam... a lot of it use to come from within the US, but after the laws got tougher and a few companies and individuals were made examples of, the majority of this activity went to places like Russia, China, South America, former communist block countries, the middle East, etc. where there are no laws or it's sanctioned by the current government there. And it's almost always after identity information... if you buy something, send a money order to a grandchild in Europe that you didn't know you had, pay taxes on a multi-million dollar for sure pay-out, or any of the other schemes that are out there, it's just icing on the cake for them.

Yes, there are a few local companies that still do cold calling in the US, but most of them are here today and gone tonight type companies that use recordings from phone numbers that are spoofed and either don't exist or belong to some innocent person that is going to get a lot of irate calls from people that thought they were the callers. The problem is that spam and these types of calls could be stopped or at least greatly reduced, but it's allowed to go on for a lot of reasons.

To top it off, because so many of you have cell phones instead of good solid AT&T quality desk phones, you can't even slam the phone in their ears, so you don't even have that satisfaction. Oh for the good ole days when it was easy to track these people down.

Many years ago Jon Carroll of the SF Chronicle wrote that he addressed the problem by asking if they could "hold on for a moment" and then going off to resume whatever he was doing ... he didn't feel guilty about lying to them because "a 'moment' is a zen kind of things -- it can mean different things at different times to different people" and, after all, he would (eventually) pick up the phone again.

I just simply use caller ID and if I don't recognize the number, then I don't answer the call. I figure that if it is important then they will leave a message.

I wish I could ignore all numbers even with caller ID.. I work from home and deal with people from all over from different states due to my contract or co-workers and other people within in my contract. Unknown numbers for me is "business work"

The only time I am able to let it go to voice-mail if it is outside of my work hours... but in most cases like this particular case, i was able to ignore it because it was not in the normal time zone of when I work.
A lot of times they don't leave messages.. sometimes dealing with those is a curse.

It's the same here in the UK. I used to get these types of calls and more. Then I bought this TrueCall

Programmed to let family and friends straight through but other calls are rejected automatically or manually by me.

There must be similar devices available in the US
