I work with light, not paint.
So the primary colours to me are RED, GREEN and BLUE. With secondary as CYAN, MAGENTA and YELLOW...

NOT red, green and yellow...

HELP... i'm confused. RGY just isn't right. RGB all the way.

And it's also Minimal editing (just thought I mention it in case people like me didn't realize and had to reshoot in jpg.)

Crap, Kev! I just read your post and realized that I have to re-shoot. I read the first line under Minimal Editing and thought it was okay to shoot RAW and just convert to .jpg

Minimal Editing is intended as a "straight from the camera" test of skill, and allows only the adjustments essential to convert your original image into a form acceptable for submission on DPChallenge.

Then later it goes on to say that you cannot use software to convert RAW. So what does that line mean? Does anyone know, can someone please enlighten me?

It means you have to shoot jpg, and are limited to rotating, resizing and using the "sharpen" tool.

Red + Blue = Purple
Yellow + Blue = Green
yellow + Red = Orange
Green + Red = Brown (also Blue+Orange)

Theoretically you can get black by using all the colors together, but it's more of a dark brown really. You need black pigment to get true black.

Paints and inks use the subtractive color system: the primary colors are Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow (CMYK model), where

C+M = Blue
C+Y = Green
M+Y = Red
C+M+Y = Black (K)

Light uses the additive color model where the primary colors are Red, Green and Blue (RGB model), and where mixing all of the colors makes White.

whoa!! Hadn't noticed that minimal editing stuff.

Thanks!

Argh! That minimal has tripped me up. I thought I was smart getting what I wanted in days before roll over. Now I have to rethink or reshoot. But thanks for the heads up.

If I had a camera which shot RAW, I think I'd always have it set to capture RAW + Small JPEG (like 640x480), since the small images would be extremely fast to browse to pick images for later processing, take up a relatively tiny amount of space, can be easily deleted, and will cover you for a case like this ...

With the more modern computer models only your latest remark (..and will cover you for a case like this ...) makes sense for that strange feature on the camera (a RAW file has also a JPG image in it). Let's call it a DPC friendly feature :)

I re-posted the same image without the illegal editing. I preferred the crop but the rest of it doesn't matter.

I had what I thought was an okay shot and then I too noticed the minimal editing rule-set. Am rethinking the materials used and concept to see if I can duplicate and comply. Now it really is a challenge. With a time limit....

I can't believe people would actually go out and shoot for a challenge without reading what rule-set the challenge is? strange indeed?

Glad I read this. I was going to shoot tomorrow. Probably won't since it's minimal.

OK so I read the rule set and shot . . . in jpg :) My question is about resizing. Can I rename the small jpg for submission? I just want to add "_sm" to the file name.

Oh go ahead :) Minimal is perfect for this since it requires that you actually shoot something that is red, blue and yellow. I have been very happy with the match between rule set and challenge topic/intent lately :)

As far as I know that's no problem.

File name is not an issue because that can be anything, the minimal editing rules would apply to the content only.
