Just uploaded the original as requested by Garry. :)

There was some confusion as to what the heck was up with such a strange creature.

Well, I'm rather sad to say that I've not discovered a new mantis species, indeed, it's just a recolor folks. :) Admittedly, it is a recolor that is about as far as one can legally push it here, but just a regular old green mantis, switched to pink.

Did you paint in the new color, or recolor it by changing Hue/Sat?

Hue / Sat tool. Even the eyes were recolored that way, just using layers to mask off the eyes for a different recolor on that area.

What was awesome was how much the hue/sat tool was able to bring out that two-tone coloration of the mantis's forelegs.

How'd you light the beast?

Oh, you mean for the photo shoot. ;) (Just kidding, I LOVE mantids, and this was a fat momma mantis, she was treated very gently)

-I used two speedlights set up like a miniature studio shot - one flat undiffused on the seamless white surface (plotter paper, works a charm) and one on a table-tripod with my Lumiquest SBIII on it as I would use a huge softbox for a model.

A lot can be done with masking and hue/sat adjustments.
