Great quality video, and an awe-inspiring location! It could have been a *lot* better edited, and I think he missed some great opportunities for dramatic perspectives.
I think we are going to see much, much more of this kind of thing as these little 'copters become more capable and more affordable. It wasn't so long ago you had to spend thousands to get into this game, now it can be done for under a thousand.

The shots don't look like they were taken from the tiny heli. to me. I doubt you could even see the chopper well enough to control it at the altitudes the video was shot from. But I'm just guessing.

The camera's broadcasting, I think. He seems to have a headgear on with a viewing screen, and he's using that view to fly the copter. One thing's for sure: no WAY you can get permits to fly a REAL helicopter over there without a LOT of expense, which seems unlikely for a YouTube video :-)

Thanks for sharing that Bear. Really beautiful to watch. I've seen a lot of videos with remote controlled helicopters and yes I do believe this is authentic.

One thing that surprises me in today's world is that a remote controlled "anything" is allowed to hover over Niagara falls. I mean some folks nearly get locked up for just taking pictures of buildings. Just saying...

Very cool video. Lot's of potential for this bit of technology. Imagine pairing this helicopter up with a GPS and programming in a route through google maps complete with speeds, horizontal/vertical positioning, and camera angles?

Sounds like the slow-motion version of a cruise missile to me ...

I have no doubt of its authenticity. At a couple points part of the 'copter's landing gear are visible in the video, and you can match it up with how it looks in the clips that were not shot from the 'copter.
I do believe that he broke FAA rules, however; some of those scenes were almost certainly shot from more than 400 feet, which is supposed to be the ceiling.

It looks like most of the video was shot over the Canadian side of the Falls. Not sure if FAA rules apply there.

Very nice for an amateur production which I am guessing was done without permission at sunrise. I am familiar with the phantom as I run 2 of it's bigger brothers. As the Phantom is based on DJIs F330 (330ml from motor to motor diagonally) to carry a payload of GoPro & Gimbal and maintain steady flight in that environment was impressive. I certainly wouldn't have risked my investment, but at over 1 million hits it looks like it's paid off for him.

If it was on the US side it'd probably have been taken out by a surface-to-air missile.

Looks like we missed our opportunity at 1:30 or so into the video. Clearly violating our airspace. ;-)

Not really.....it's not as if you've never attacked Canada before:)

+1 Yeah exactly, remember the War of 1812? So there! :-p

ETA I so want me one of those copters!!! Wonder what would happen if I flew it up the Johnston bridge to the American side?

Looks like the whole rig can be had for less than the price of a Canon 5D.

300 meter control range seems a bit limiting. Wonder if they had a signal booster? Seems like they got a bit farther.

I doubt I could get this past the CEO, without selling everything else. :-(

That's out of the box but you can add-on long range stuff. My gear is rated to 2 klm but I've seen others achieve 15klm no problem.

Very cool stuff! I have often wanted to have a quadcopter so I could attach my GoPro to it for cool stuff like this.

I was in Aurora, CO, a few days after the theater shooting there last summer, and I met a photographer from Reuters at the makeshift memorial that was established across the road. He was using a nice unit with his GoPro to get aerial shots of the memorial. He managed to honk off a number of people who thought that this location was a bit too solemn to be "flying a toy around" as one lady put it, but he did get some unique shots out of it. I looked up his work when I got home from that trip and found a couple of his shots, but unfortunately, a year later, I'm having a hard time finding them to share here.

This is the setup he had, though. It was cool that he was able to control not only the motion of the quadcopter, but he could tilt the GoPro up & down remotely, too:

Well, yeah, but breaking into NSA headquarters and taking 'candids' of the employees was a little over the top after all... ;)
