Though this would be an interesting title for a challenge as there are so many ways this could be interpreted, it'd be interesting to see what people would come up with!

Could be interesting, though I think there might be a lot of entries featuring messy bedrooms and teens glued to their various devices :-)

That's the beauty of it though! People will be forced to think outside of the box - like to show how stressful school/college life is. Being a student myself, it's bloody hard work doing the course i'm doing!
I think what people have as the image of a teen is quite generic and sort of needs to be redefined!

I reiterate, people need to change the interpretation of being a teen :( There are loads of teens that have amazing talents, why cant people think about that?

True, I know many teens who go to school fulltime then slave away at McJobs in the evenings and on weekends. But I know for a fact that my bedroom was (and usually still is!) messy when I was a teenager, and that nowadays I rarely seen a teen without a cellphone and at least an iPod, I probably have a more tunnel-vision view than most others.

Frankly, too, nowadays - and I am sure I will draw some flak for this - I am seeing a gigantic upswing in the number of pregnant teens. Having a baby while in your teens is now be something to aspire to, at least where I live. Let's just say that I'm old enough to remember the days when, when you saw a teenage girl pushing a stroller, that meant that she was the babysitter.

I've heard from teens themselves that teen mommies have been known to actively encourage other teenagers to get pregnant, because then the government will look after them for the rest of their lives.

Anyway...let's see what shakes out.

I think your basing your opinion on anecdotal experiences, while the data suggests otherwise.

Here is a bit on peer pressure, and drugs and alcohol abuse.
Drug, Cigarette, Drunkenness Rates Down Amongst Teens

It is really unfortunate that kids/teens get such a bad rep nowadays. They are less violent, consume less drugs/alcohol, less teenage pregnancy, high rates of graduation/college/university, and we often hear about how bad the new generation is. We need to open our minds a lot more, and realise that the kids are OK.

I think that thanks to the internet, fellatio is a common alternative.

We ought not forget that today birth control and abortions are readily available, factors which do have an impact on pregnancy rates.

The comment relative to how bad the new generation is has been in existence since the days of the Roman empire and I would wager that the same will hold true for many generations to come.

Hey, I never said that kids these days were awful or anything. And if teen pregnancy is indeed going down overall, then great, all for the better, give everyone a chance to reach their potential and mature a little in all aspects before pumping out babies.

But yes, on a personal/anecdotal level, I DO have a problem with anyone who deliberately sets out to milk the system. That includes pregnant teens and there are a lot of them around here. Fact, plain and simple.

A big +1 to your second statement. I absolutely agree, and I know that the generations before me probably said the same about mine. We tend to fear what we dont understand, and understanding younger generations is difficult for most. But, as a teacher of teenagers, I can honestly say that the kids these days are very bright, conscientious, and hard working. They face a lot of stresses that didnt exist in prior generations, and they are among the first generations to have less parenting (more single parent homes, more two income homes).

Just some info on your first comment though, regarding birth control and abortions:
Access to birth control is likely a contributing factor, but abortion rates are down amongst teens as well: Teen Abortion Rates

...and one could argue the drop in abortions might be attributable to the availability of birth control.

It is also of significance to note where the authors allude to the following:

•Despite having declined, the U.S. teen pregnancy rate continues to be one of the highest in the developed world. It is more than twice as high as rates in Canada (28 per 1,000 women aged 15–19 in 2006) and Sweden (31 per 1,000).[22]

A very interesting article, but you might want to peruse the contents of the following:

I picked up my son from middle school for lunch yesterday...grades 6,7 and 8. so the oldest students should be about 14. When I was in the office waiting, there was a girl who came in and said in a loud voice, "I need a pass, I have to leave now, my mama is on her way and she's going to kill me, she found out I'm having a baby."
