I've been watching my score on the Effects of Water challenge and in the last 30 seconds, my score went

102 votes * 6.5490 = 668
102 votes * 6.4804 = 661 with 30 seconds to go
102 votes * 6.4020 = 653 with 6 seconds to go
Finished on 101 votes at 6.3960

That's an awful lot of last minute vote changes and a difference between ribbon & HC.

Math guru's - wth happened??

Sorry to hear that. IMO, people here are more interested in winning than in voting fairly.

Mine was a 5.35 last night. Finished at 5.11 tonight. It is what it is and I didn't pay attention to each vote but that's a big percent drop in 24 hours.

well crap - one thing that happened is that I forgot to come in and finish voting so you lost a 7 from me. :( I'm guessing that is how you went from 102 votes to 101.

If it dropped two stops that fast (in 30 seconds before rollover) with no change in votes that raises an eyebrow. Maybe it might warrant the Admins having a look see to check the logs for any funny business...don't know if anyone else experienced that level of drop in such a short time.

No but I went from 7.13 to 6.31 in 78 votes if that makes you feel better ;)

Unfortunately this is true, as childish as it sounds.
Nothing like a pat on the back, a free lunch and a virtual ribbon.

Mine dropped from 6.47 to 6.3 since yesterday, no change in the last minutes. It is interesting to note the very wide gap between Participants and Non-Participants in some entries. I wonder if that's a sign of collaborative voting.

I wouldn't go so far with the conspiracy theory, but looking at my score this time (honestly, I never look how many people gave me what mark...) I noticed this:
Avg (commenters): 7.6000
Avg (participants): 6.1154
Avg (non-participants): 6.4211
Perhaps that's always the trend. IDK. Not worth thinking about it.

I'm neither talking about nor concerned over a difference in participant vs non-participant averages. I'm talking about a massive drop in score in the last 30 seconds before rollover.

eta: with no change in vote numbers

It's happened to me before. But I've had it go both ways. I've seen sudden, last-minute adjustments upwards as well, right at the button. Heck, sometimes I'm RESPONSIBLE for them, as I go through my voting at the last second and decide to give something a big bump.

It sounds like the scrubber might of voted you high, but they didn't vote on 20% or more so his vote didn't count.

This happened to me, too. One of my entries dropped 5 places in the last few minutes - from what would have been 4th to 9th. Pretty nasty when this happens if the position matters as it does at the moment - there are only two challenges left for this year's Points & Ribbon Race (//dpcribbons.hajeka.com/).

that almost always the case, heck I'm guilty of it myself as i tend to vote others in accordance with how well i think mine is. Its hard to remain completely objective but i don't think lots of people intentionally troll vote. especially at the end, why wait till the last minute to troll vote, just give the one whenever you vote, its not like it carries more weight at the end.

I don't usually vote the last day - comment yes, but not vote. But sometimes (not often) at the last minute I will bump something I really like!
But I would never downgrade like that just a few minutes before rollover. That's just mean. And here it appears it must have happened with more than one vote.

It is possible that other folks ahead of you also suffered the same low voting/ vote changing...

Ahh, a voice of reason :) you know I hadn't even considered that? You have a valid point and at no point did I intend to disparage the other images. I was/am a bit shocked at the big drop, is all.

Yes, a voice of reason.... but does that means it's okay because someone went in and marked down several entries by a lot instead of just one? IDK. If I had a big drop like that I'd be a bit shocked too.
I think we just have to know that DPC is not always what we want it to be and leave it at that. Life isn't always what we want it to be either but it's what we make of it that counts:)
TPL next!!!! I vote for that.
