Okay, this is somewhat lighthearted but it got me thinking... I handed my 19 month old my cell phone with a the camera app on just for a few laughs. I thought it would be cool to actually save the first photograph he ever took. He fired off a few frames that were abstract to say the least...LoL... Anyway, that little light bulb went off over my head. Could I create him an account, and enter an image he took, so long as, he fired the shutter, picked the image, and I upload straight from the camera??? Obviously, he can't edit it, and I can't edit it for him, so it would have to be straight from the camera.

Well, I just thought it would be interesting next time an abstract challenge rolls around to enter one of his shots and see how many people get beat by a 19 month old. Obviously, its not my work so I would have to create a username for him and upload it for him, but it would be his account. I didn't see anything in the rules that says that's not allowed. The only caveat is that he must fire the shutter, choose the photo, and edit it himself. So I figured I could let him run around wildly with the camera, then print out his shots in thumbnail format and let him point at the one he likes. From there I could upload it straight from the camera. Perhaps I missed something glaring in the rules, after all, it is late and I am tired from working and chasing him all day... but it got me thinking... even if it is just for comedic value...

yep. There's precedent, maybe not at 18 months, but certainly some parents have had their kiddos on here before, usually at 12 or so, but hey, what the heck I wanna see Don give some bling to an 18 month old.. :)

I don't know about the rules but it sounds like a lovely idea! :)

I have two dogs, four hamsters and a six foot invisible rabbit that are all active members. They only like to vote and they tend to vote my images very highly. Note: If I didn't know they were completely unbiased, I wouldn't let them vote. I don't see a problem. :P

i dont think its legal. someone else can press the shutter, but you have to setup the shot.

if you do it, i wouldn't broadcast it.

ETA, I didnt read you wanted to create an account.

In my opinion I think if someone want to sign their child up as long as they can hold the camera and their is no assistance from mom and dad, it should be fine. The problem comes in voting I don't think anyone under a certain age should be allowed to vote. Especially a 19 month old. It couldn't be done without some help from mom or dad. Not that I am accusing you of anything but I could sign my 3 girls up and then potentially have 3 more votes on each challenge. It would be on my honor not to abuse it, but there might be some who would.

I should have specified that he would not be voting... LMAO... Anyway, I'm not going to do it any time soon, as you can see by challenge participation, I hardly have time to enter myself. I was just curious for when he gets a little older, if he would be able to participate... I was more curious if there was anything in the rules preventing a 19 month old from entering... LoL...

Is it a knock on abstract photographers or voters that you are making? It sounds very similar to someone who walks around a museum and stares at the Picassos and says "my 2 year old could do this."

Facebook is probably a good place to display your toddlers pictures- or better yet, Google+ - if that still exists.

eta : Just so you all know, my 4 year old has been entering challenges under the name "Gyaban" for a few years. It has been difficult because I have had to spend mountains of time creating an elaborate, fictitious back-story- just so you all weren't distraught over losing to a child.

You will need to submit the "DPC Waiver for Minors" found in this thread. You can also apply for special permission to help out with editing/submitting the picture. He'd have to describe what was to be done, but you can move the mouse according to instructions (similar to helping out someone with paralysis).

I don't know of any reason he couldn't vote as well, as long as he understands which end of the scale is "good" and can vote consistently.

Interestingly, the dogs, hamsters and especially the six foot tall invisible rabbit all carry a higher ribbon count than Art does... ;)

As far as the OP goes, I think it's a fine idea. I remember years ago when Bear_Music entered an actual Ansel Adams image in an Ansel Adams challenge. it didn't ribbon, some if nothing else, i the same vain, it could be interesting/humerous to see how he does. (Note to self... stay out of abstract challenges for a while...)

Isaac shot this for the first Negative Space challenge when he was five-and-a-half, significantly outscoring/outranking my own entry ... :-)

He doesn't even have to choose the image. He just has to take compose it himself and press the button. Actually, he doesn't even have to press the button... he just has to set the settings (if any) and then compose it.

You can choose it and enter it without editing it.

I'd LOVE to be beaten by him.

Please do!

As far as letting him vote he will likely do a better job than most of us..... :)
