My wife has a conference in Austin in October and I am thinking about going along. What are the great sites to see and things to do and photograph in Austin?

Hopefuly, I could meet up with some DPC people in that area.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I absolutely love austin.....very close to dark there there are bats that come out from under the bridges in downtown...it is very impressive.

Also if you like art, stop by my sister in laws art gallery... (the Russell Collection) it's on 6th street in downtown. You would enjoy seeing the art. (If you talk to anyone tell them Adam Russell set you)

There are lots of great buildings and stuff in downtown. Then there are the lakes (lake travis , lake Austin...etc) Great place to visit and lots to do.

some websites
The Russell Collection
Austin Bats

Anyway I hope this helps

you could always travel to see the new cowboys stadium, on the 28th the best team in the NFL will be mopping the floor with the host team.

I grew up in Austin, but never did photography there as I wasn't into it back then. I would recommend a trip to see our capitol it's a def photo op inside and out. If you want picturesque sunset/landscapes head out towards lake travis. There is plenty to photograph everywhere you turn..If your into street photography you should find plenty of subject matter. (Austin unofficial slogan is "Keep Austin Weird") There is no lack of people who personify this.

Oh, I LOVE LOVE LOVE photographing Austin! To me... Town Lake (or I think they call it something else now) is so pretty with the bridges and skyline behind it, and canoers. I have so many happy memories of meeting up with Jutilda & sometimes others and exploring with our cameras, and in fact, we're working on doing that again in the next couple of weeks.

Jeeeeez.... I can't believe I used to put those gawdy frames around my photos... ick!
