Given how successful the April "Big Month" side challenge thread was, I was hoping we could make something like that continue in a thread like this where we can show off our latest shots of birds that we're really happy with.

So....let's see them, if you're interested....your new and/or favorite bird shots. I'll start off with one I got the other day (a few more coming from that day!)...

This is a Night Heron (first time I've seen one of these) and he was nice enough to pose inn front of the perfect background!

This is a good place ... let me know if you want me to change your question mark to a couple of exclamation points ... ;-)

Hey, thanks! Well...why not? Go for it, please. If there's no interest, it will just die out...but given how well the April "Big Month" thread went, I hope we can keep this going. :)

I will alter my initial post in here, accordingly. Thanks again!

It is so strange, when things like this happen. I love thinking about all the variables. Then telling people I planned it like that! lol

Great idea, I'm missing the Big Month side challenge already!

My 1st decent 'in flight' humming bird capture.

Count me in! I was just thinking that I had no direction after the April side challenge was over!

I'm almost out of DPC portfolio space, so I can participate by posting about one a week, and making some comments.

You should be able to buy additional space if you want to -- send an Administrative ticket to Langdon.

I made up these 4x6 prints for someone who wanted to do some bird identifications ... they were all taken last November in Home, Washington (near Tacoma, on the southern end of Puget Sound) ...

hahn23 has identified this for me. It is a Nankeen Night Heron. Thank you Richard.

As many of you know, I am one of the volunteer leaders of the official RMNP bird walks this year. For that activity, I have been preparing field guide sheets with my photos captured in the area. Here's an example:

Great Blue Heron - I got some full shots too, but sometimes I love to see the closer details on this beautiful bird!

Edit: On second thought...this is a Grey Heron...isn't it?

Birds are my favourite subject.
White-bellied Sunbird (Cinnyris talatala) - Juvenile thus no white belly yet.

Wonderful capture, Harvey. I'm in learning and shooting lousy shot. Really admired your knowledge while I don't even know the name of bird I shot -:)

Here is mine

Young bald eagle.

Not a great shot, but I love it just the same.

Female Mallard...very common, of course...but the scene was just perfect.

The thumbnail doesn't do it justice

I'll join and post whenever I have one. Just bought a new lens for this kind of photos, although it has some limitations.
