I'm looking for those who have actually shot a runway show or fashion week....even better if you were a photographer for the designer of the show.
Basically I am shooting for the designer of a show during fashion week. I'm curious is to whether or not a photo release is standard and/or how do you give the designer the right to release photos to the media? Even better how do you know your limits on the photo use?
I asked the designer for any agreements that he has had with photographers in the past and his response was that it is not standard in the industry. This is why I'm asking the photographer community. |

If I understand you correctly, the designer has hired you to shoot for him during Fashion Week, and you want to know what, if any, limits you can put on his use of the images you make for him? The implication being that you're concerned he may think he owns the images outright? And you want to know what rights, if any, do you have to use (and license) these images yourself, after the fact?

Not quite...I'm not hired. I'm volunteering to shoot for the designer with my own equipment, own cards, ect. Not a work for hire. No contract. No agreement.
After further investigation and thought I realize as long as there is copyright transfer the photos still belong to me, although he'll be able to some usage rights. It would actually more in his benefit to discuss usage right.
I'm more looking to see if other photographers out there actually sign some kind of agreement as to what extent their photos can be used. In this case i won't mind the photos going to fashion magazines and such as long as I'm credited...I don't want them being sold though.
In the digital files the copyright will be embedded. |
