As was very rightly suggsted by a kind member, I am "cleaning up" this post so as not to offend anyone or violate any forum rules:
Hi everyone!
I believe I have made a very wrong start here by voting and commenting before introducing myself, but I did not see the link to this welcome center.
I have already been re-called to order :) (see the (now edited) exchange below)

quote=]... but if you read the description of the competition title, and I underlined it for you. It states TYPICALLY!!! so this is not a TYPICAL PORTRAIT!!!! educated yourself, before you comment![/quote]

My reply: Hi, well WOW, what a warm welcome aboard!
I sincerely hope that YOU are not a TYPICAL member of this site.
I beg to be forgiven if I have infringed any rule.
Feel free to ask an Administrator to delete my comment and vote for the incriminated portrait :)
This being said, before you give me any lessons on education, please learn how to spell.
Kind regards.

(...) I hope that this small "incident" will be forgiven ... and that the very nice person who showed me the way to this site will not be ashamed of me :):)

Would not worry about it too much! There is plenty of sass to go around.

Take no notice me duck, there are some weird but also some very lovely folk about.
01/02/2012 12:03:47 PM · #8
Arkkkk, don't worry about it, there is always someone, somewhere bitching about something on here.

You comment away, you leave whatever you want too. Just because someone doesn't get it or feels weirder out, that is their problem not yours.

P.S He probably just put a dog portrait in! lol

Yup, par for the course. But in the future, if you want to quote someone to make a point, but not embarrass them, you might want to remove their username from the quote code :-)

Also, just in case you missed it when it was fresh off the press, you might find this thread useful.

Sadly, that's why I rarely give negative comments. Good for you if you're brave enough to keep doing it.

I would love for you to open your mind to what a portrait could be, but minds are rarely opened by condescension.

seriously that wasn't a negative comment it was flaming pure and simple.

I'm referring to whatever comment inspired the flaming.

... I have no idea whatsoever... it was a positive comment involving a cat portrait ... in a person portrait challenge ... my mistake - but there was no need to be rude. Now I'm getting embarrassed - what if we just leave it ? :)
PS: you're a great bunch

Welcome aboard.....Vote and comment away...it is your given right...

welcome aboard

i had very very similar thoughts on the said picture and stated as much in my comment but ive had no redress from them

dont let it put you off say what ever want in comments as long as its what you believe and you can explain it, i leave negative comments as theyre far more valuable than positive ones. yeah it lovely to get positive comments and bask in the glow for a bit but you learn a lot more from negative comments.

Welcome to the looney bin. We don't bite, well, unless your name is Art of course...

Welcome to DPC, Kashmir. Now put a bag on your head.

Preferences - under "Voting preferences" check "Hide my name" - that way you are anonymous during voting. Either way, don't let criticism of your photos or your comments get to you. Take whatever you find useful from any feedback you get and just discard the rest.

It may seem like a novel idea but If you like the photo, Give it high score, if you don't, give it a lower one. Use your own criteria! You'll be fine.

I'm assuming that's what she did. Her mistake was leaving a comment explaining what she thought about the image. She got an unpleasant response and thus continues the cycle of discouraging honest comments, which in turn perpetuates the constant "I don't understand why this scored so low because nobody left any useful comments" threads. Personally, I think it is just bad form to respond at all to someone's comments on a challenge entry - at least during voting. I know some people defend it with "but they didn't understand and I had to explain" etc, but I think it is just off-putting regardless.

So what was the original comment you left on the photo that got you that response? Or are we allowed to post photo comments while in voting?
