I submitted a photo of my Whites Tree Frog into the National Geographic challenge literally within 15 minutes of the deadline. I had just submitted a photo of another one of my pet frogs for the Free Study, and wasn't paying attention to the dates other than June 2001. It was totally a last minute impulsive submission, editing and all. My picture was taken on June 19th. Does anyone know if that was before the challenge started? I hope not - it is my 3rd highest score so far (total shock)!

Darn. If I had realized that sooner I would have pulled it. :(

Edit: And thank you, Judi.

Ah bugger, that's tough. What I'd suggest is submitting a ticket to the SC, tell them you realized it's out of date and ask if you can take a self-DQ. If no one else has requested validation on it, they should be willing to do so.
You'll still have to avoid another DQ for your next 25 entries to ensure you don't get penalized, at least you won't have that darned red band on a shot in your challenge history.

if you don't get a validation request, don't draw attention to an error you made. :)

That's what I wanted to say. You're not top 5, so noone will ask you to validate. So shhhhhhh! Don't blow your cover!

Too late. Or is it? If everyone in this thread changes their post to somethning innocent, it can work. I suggest we all complain about Slippy's B.O.

Can't do a self-DQ if there's an actual rules violation, regardless of whether it's self-reported or not. However, there's no effective difference between a self-DQ and a "regular" DQ, except that the former picture would be hidden, while the latter will be displayed at the end of the challenge results, which is actually better for you because people can still see and comment on it. You can add a note of explanation to the comment area, and nobody will think you are a "cheater" for it.

That would be cheating ...
