Has any thought been given to an iphone/Android app?

I often find myself having to use my phone (HTC Android) to find out or remind myself what challenges I should be looking out to find images for. OK, it's not a major issue as long as the website downloads OK.

However, an app could make the details of challenges more accessible. Also, it could be used to view forum threads, voting and details of cameras, for example.

Anyway, it was just an idea...

Cheers

We don't allow voting from mobile devices, at least those which cannot show the images at full-size.

Really? I never knew that, but then again, I haven't tried. Did try to submit an image directly from my phone once, that didn't work.

This is not correct, or perhaps needs to be updated. I just cast a vote from my LG Ally in the Tilted Horizon challenge as a test. If you would like to look, feel free to get into my account and look. I cast a single vote. I had noticed this anomaly before. I often browse challenge entries on my phone. On occasion, instead of pressing of next I hit 10. But it does not tell me my vote is not counted, it just moves on to the next image.

Also by this logic, doesn't that mean you should not allow voting for people who have a native resolution on their monitor of 1024*768? They also can not see 800 pixel images on their monitor in the vertical direction. :P

I believe Langdon has to block devices individually -- it's not surprising there might be some overlooked. You could submit an Administrative ticket ...

People with 1024 x 768 monitors can see the image at full resolution and full size, just not all at once. On a 4" screen you can never do that.

I was just giving you a hard time about the 1024*768 monitors. ;-)
Interesting, at one point I could not enter photos from my device, but I tried to enter a challenge from my phone just now and I think it would have gone through, except the random photo I chose was too large. I imagine there are a lot of casual DPC voters on their phones voting. If I hadn't kept up in the forums I would have thought it was fine to vote from my phone. How are users of smartphones, who are not blocked from voting, to know that they are not supposed to vote from their phone?

I think you can do things like submit to a challenge, comment in the forums, renew your membership, etc. from a smart phone using a browser interface, but you are not supposed to be able to vote. I don't have a smart phone (and I bet your phone is 50 times smarter than my desktop computer) so I can't help out much with the technical details.

If you know of cases where voting from a mobile device is not blocked, please submit an Administrative Ticket, which goes straight to Langdon, who is the only one who can act on the information anyway.

How about an app that just allowed you to update challenge voting results on the go.
I can do this on my iphone with Safari but it is kind of a pain waiting for the site to load plus resizing the "my submissions" box to a reasonable viewing size. After hitting update the entire page reloads again and you have to go through the resizing process each time.

If an app was created that only contained the info in the "My Submissions" box with an update button it would fit perfectly on the screen and give quick and easy DPChallenge updates when mobile.

What I would really like (both on the site and in an app -- but even just on the site would be enough)

The ability to submit a shot from your workshop!!

The site allows voting from the iPad...

However, the all knower of all the things that we poor users will never know hath decreed that we shall not have either flash, or file uploads to websites from our toys. It is to "improve the customer experience", it is... I would have thought that submitting an image from my iPad would "improve my experience". But what do I know? I just use the thing.
