Anybody signing up for this year's SoFoBoMo? This year's fuzzy month is from 1st July to 31st August. I signed up, no idea what I will do this year, but I'm sure something will come to me eventually!

I spotted a couple of people from DPC who have registered already. I found it really a lot of fun the last two years.

I meant to sign up for this last year and for some reason never got round to it.

Thanks for the early reminder, I'll make a point of doing it this year!

I'll give a try. Just registered. Clicked on the "Random selection of 5 books" button and Skips book was on top. Nice one!

I tried doing it last year, but I had trouble putting a book cover on in the pdf file, so I gave up. Also, the file turned out to be about 27Mb.

I actually ended up doing one last summer, though I don't remember if i actually registered or not.

Championship Book

It was August before I could finish it. :) We gave copies to each of the coaches and they loved it.

I did one in 2009, then got partway through the project last year but couldn't finish it off. I do plan to try and do it again this year -- the early notice of the date helps a lot!

thanks, Henk-Jan!

what software were you using to make your book? there might be some alternatives. it's a shame for anyone to take the time to do the planning, shooting, and basic production to get so close to the finish line and then to be hamstrung by software issues :(

Downloaded Scribus. Looks nice, but is it worth putting effort in trying to use this program or should I go for something else to create a nice PDF?

Blurb Booksmart. I think I was too close to the finish line to do work out how to do it better.

Did all the shooting in a four day span; took a bit longer to put together the book but it is done! (And definitely laid out the book in less than a month - just took a while to edit the pictures to put in it.)

it really is a blast!

2009: western hanover
2010: my city, my people
2011: haven't had time to think about it yet, and it starts in two weeks!

i do hope more dpc'ers sign on and go for it...

Hummm.... I keep toying with this each year and this year is our summer vacation time.... Humm....

Downloaded Scribus and having a play... Reminds me of some DTP software I used a lifetime ago....

I'm in, actually hope to finish (or at least start) this year. I think I put animals as my subject, but don't know if I will change it or not. Still thinking. I think I will be able to hit three zoos, one butterfly pavilion, and at least one aquarium. Plus any wild animals I may come across. If that all fails I have two furbabies :-)

I"m in. Thanks for the reminder and link!

I've been registered for a while but have no idea what I'm doing yet.

Unlike previous years, the SOFBOMO "fuzzy month" doesn't appear to line up with any trips.

2010 - Escaping the Cold
2009 - Madrid - A Melbournian's Perspective

Might have to document my 35 favourite dead trees around Melbourne ;)

I got an "early reminder" email a month or two ago, and then forgot when it was starting. Thanks for the reminder and for bumping the thread!

I missed last year, but I should be able to do one this year, especially since I have a "real" book project coming up that will probably need to be done in less than a month anyway ... ;-)

Thanks for the reminder. I have never done this before, but just signed up. I, too, have no idea what to do, but will try to cobble together something.
I am looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks of. Planning to use Blurb; any thoughts or suggestions on the "how-to" of that?
Thanks.

I'm so tempted to try this, but I haven't been very good at sticking to side challenges lately, so I don't know if it's a good idea.

aww.... poop!! I forgot completely and totally about this. Then I realized that I had some really fun stuff this week, and I'm going out to the mountains tomorrow!!!

Then I realized that I can't start until the 1st! :(

So this is something you have to shoot during the month? Or take a collection of your old pics?

This is a project (making a book) I have had on the back burner for a long time. Thanks for posting this no-hassle opportunity to do that in the first place. And thanks for the 'bump' that brought it to my attention. I knew in an instant what I wanted to do and signed up right away. 7/15-8/14 time period.

But So Fo Bo Mo ? Sounds like a very, very weird musical scale. (or silly talk to my cat)

Oh, what the heck. It's a fun project and it's their name.

:)

the intention is for you to shoot fresh, the idea being that most photographers never get around to doing books because the thought of combing their archives can be so overwhelming that the project never happens. read through the links provided to get a better idea as to what it's all about.

Another bump :) With less than 2 days to go, I finally made a decision about my subject.
