Hello! I am new to DP and have submitted a photo for my second challenge! :)

My first challenge I had DQ'd because the date was wrong on my camera, now I am really scared to have the second one DQ'd and then I will be suspended from entering challenges!
So the time on my camera is fixed, but now I have submitted for the street photography challenge.
The challenge states minimal editing which I think it basically means no editing.

Anyway, the photo I took was taken in a greenhouse which caused the lense to be foggy and the picture looks like I used a soft filter.. Now I am being asked "We need proof that your submission is valid. Please waste no time in submitting proof."

What do I do!? Can I submit the orignal resized, because its very large format.
I normally import through lightroom and then export resized.. Does that count as editing?

When you are requested to submit proof, what steps do you normally take?

Hiya,

Don't worry about the validation request--it can be hair-raising, but it's a very common process.

You'll need to submit the file, JPG or RAW, that came straight from the camera. No processing of any kind--so no, unfortunately, you can't submit a resized version.

Tell the SC when you do the submission that your lens was foggy at the time (totally legal for this challenge). Tell them your editing steps--which, assuming was nothing more than resizing and maybe sharpening--and you should be good to go.

Best of luck,
Damon

in your case i hope you shot in jpg for this challenge, no raw conversion was allowed. but just copy the file using your file manager and submit it, no matter how large it is, whatever you do do not edit the file in any way, the need to compare your submission to what the camera captured.

Thank you for the info! I was really worried when I saw that!

Here is the problem though, I used my boyfriends Canon camera because he had a 75-300mm(compact flash) and I don't have a compact flash card reader. So the only way I can import it from my camera is to use aperture of lightroom..

Is that OK as long as I dont resize it on export?

Or do you know of another way to import to my computer?

I'm not sure I'm understanding. If you don't have a card reader, how can you use aperature? Is the camera directly connected to your computer? If so, you can just open windows explore and drag it directly from there.

Not to invade but I had to validate my shot for the Movies challenge. I had a notice at the top of my homepage and sent in the original. Do I get an email or anything saying it's been validated?

Assuming you have the proper USB cable, you can just use the file manager to read straight off the camera like it's an external drive. (I don't know if Aperture or Lightroom does anything to the file when it imports.) If you can't read the camera like a drive, you just need the right drivers.

They'll email you--don't worry. It can take a week or more sometimes.

Files imported to Aperture are Masters. They are not altered. One can export Master files from Aperture to a convenient place on your computer, like the desktop. After that's done, then upload to DPC.

I normally shoot with a Nikon which uses SD, in which I use a card reader.

But I used a Canon, and when I used the USB to plug directly into my computer, nothing was happening.. (I use a Macbook Pro).

It would only read that the camera was plugged in if i selected the photos to be imported through one of those programs. If I went into my drives, nothing is there.
