Bought a Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for my Oly E-510.

I've been using my OM 50mm a lot but the lack of AF kills it for me at times.

Had some Christmas money, so bought a slightly used one on eBay, £260.

Any one share any experiences of this lens?

Hey Daniel, hope you are ok.

I can't tell 100% that my version is the same, but I do have the Nikon version of that lens.

I really love the sharpness from it, and for portraits is really stellar, although you have a very short working distance.

The focus is pretty fast, but when wide open it tends to hunt a bit, because of the shallow DOF it has.

Overall, it's one of the lens I use more, once I even shot skateboarding with it, since I really liked its colors.

Hope it helps,
Joao

It's the HSM DC EX version, I think they are all the same except for the mount obviously.

The only difference, on my four thirds camera the sensor will be covering a smaller portion of the centre of the lens, so in theory it should be using the 'best' bits of the lens.

Yeah, I'm curious to see too. I've been considering one of these myself for awhile.

I think the whole set of these new sigma lenses are absolutely fantastic!

30mm f1.4
50mm f1.4
85mm f1.4

If I wasn't such a snob I'd sell my L glass and buy them all. Actually I own the 50mm f1.4 and wouldn't trade it for a 50mm f1.2L, and I'm being totally serious.

Latest shot from my Sigma.

I've hardly used it to be honest, it's a wonderful lens, but so huge that the whole 'point' of small Zuiko Digital glass becomes ever so apparent. Sigma should have shrunk this for the 43 sensor to keep it more honest with the smaller body sizes, but still, it's built like a tank.

Will use this a lot more in the summer time when I am free from uni.

Nice shot. Super sharp. How does one get that depth at 2.8? That's amazing.

I was also going to query the aperture due to the starlights from the headlights and the field of focus?

Well, for all its shortcomings, the beauty of the four thirds sensor is the impact the crop factor has on depth of field at any given aperture.

At f/2.8 you're pretty much going to get the same DOF as a full frame sensor would have achieved at f/4, the in-body IS obviously works too given the shutter speed.
