...that no one will like.

Weekly themed challenges as we have now (mix them up between basic and advanced)

Weekly free studies (advanced).

Cut out the monthly business.

I have enough of a hard time entering the challenges offered on a monthly basis!

Whats the reason for wanting weekly contests?

Too many themes flying around. (Camera bags and doorknobs make me think that someone up above is running out of ideas.) Free Studies are too massive...

Actually, now that I think about it, I think we had a poll a while back about changing the frequency of free studies. I don't think it was a welcome idea.

Just a thought.

No thanks. :)

Why? Free studies seem so much more quality-driven and open-ended when you have a month to do it. I feel like those are some of the best photos we come up with here.

I felt it was an effort to give us something that was a serious challenge to be creative with. I think you will be surprised at some of the ideas that will come out of this. There are not a lot of creative shots of camera bags out there already, so there are no pre-exisiting cliche shots to remake for an easy ribbon.

Thank you yospiff for something to contemplate: "pre-existing cliche shots to remake for an easy ribbon." Is that how the "easy" ribbons are got? Is my mind so different or is it that I lack the skills as well as the desire to remake any cliche shot?

I think you took this wrong. You must admit, when you have a challenge that's been done many times, it is easier to look through existing photos and find an idea that works particularly well. You then can take that idea and change it up into something that's more your own. Whether the photograph itself is "easy" is something completely different -- you're already part of the way there because you have an idea.

I have one idea for camera bag. One. If that doesn't work, I don't know what I'm going to try. I'm not very creative, even though I can take a good photograph. So yes, it is much easier for me to be able to search for ideas and use them as a starting point to come up with something more original. When I have absolutely no starting point, as in camera bag, I'm definitely in a lot of trouble.

Some of them. Not necessarily "easy" because they still take a lot of skill and work to achieve. It does give someone a roadmap to follow, however. Maybe that's part of why I like the humorous stuff. If it's an old gag you have heard before, it's not going to be funny, so the humorous challenges tend to bring out a lot of creative new ideas.

Actually it is NOT easier for me to rework an idea.

I've been thinking it would be fun to have a free study each month for each type of photography editing..

One for Advanced, One for Basic, One for Minimal, and One for Expert.

Boom, one a week, with a reason..

Please DPC? Try it for two months? It's not like we can't go back to this model...

ETA:

As per the allowed dates, keep it as 1 month previous for all entries, same as current free study, just roll it on a weekly basis :)

Then again, that might be too complex, if it is, then just have multiple Free Studies.
