Monday starts a new PPChallenge week long side challenge. This thread is a call for originals to be considered.

I am hoping this new version of the challenge will focus less on "rescuing" so-so or problem images and more on perfecting interesting originals, more on showcasing the different approaches that can be taken in the post-processing of excellent photographs. Here's how it will work...

I will take originals for a few days via this thread starting now. Please post these full-sized to your Workshop. On Sunday, a panel of talented fellow DPCers will select 10 originals from those submitted, covering many genres. Originals making it into the final 10 will receive 1 point.

Then starting Monday, April 19th, I'll start a new thread much like the old threads (example) and we can all start post processing these final 10. We will have the entire week to post process (until Sunday night). On Monday, the contributors will turn in their top three edits and I will add up the score and announce a winner.

There will be no restrictions with editing (however the contributing photographer may have preferences listed in the comments section).

Ultimately this thread is for posting originals, asking questions, giving suggestions, and showing an interest. I will also be posting all of the contributions here in the original post.

Potential PP Participants this week include:

cynthiann, purpleflutterby13, Ja-9, sfalice love, jomari, pwm6, BrendaJ921

I'd like to take part in the challenge - is this the right thread for saying that? :)

Yup, this thread is for showing an interest and for posting originals if you like.

I also hope to do better this week, as this is really very, very helpful.

Here's a possible image to edit - those hills are full of wildflowers.

Here is an original for consideration ~ Are there a limit to the number of originals we post?

I don't know if there is such a "rule" but there seem to be many fewer originals being posted than in the first April week.

Maybe it's because the deal was changed. Originally there were three points awarded for each of the ten originals the "jury" selected for the round, which may have encouraged donations. However, that 3 point offer was wisely withdrawn. This time, like last time, there are no points awarded for selected originals so having an original selected could work against the person who volunteered it, since that eliminates one chance out of ten for that person to win any points. Maybe this affects very "points-conscious" participants. Maybe that's why there are so few posted so far.

I'd like to suggest that anyone who gets an original accepted would get 0.3 points which wouldn't do much except possibly break a tie. Maybe that would be enough to get some interest.

On the other hand, maybe people are getting fatigued with so many images to work on.

You can post as many as you want for consideration.

I do think that there seems to be less interest this week. Possibly because of DPL. We'll see what happens. Maybe after tonight it'll pick up. I am going to offer up 1 point for each original picked to encourage the "points-conscious".

Perhaps in the future, we'll lower the number of photos to edit down to 5, perhaps not. It's come a LONG way since we started doing this. Doing 21 a week for a month was totally insane!

Anything happening here?

That's what I was wondering. : )

Maybe with DPL going on we could do 5 images instead of 10? That's doable!

Well, we got about 4 photos before the first Monday, then a few more rolled in before the next Monday. I just kinda figured there wasn't enough interest or people were distracted with DPL.

I was kind of thinking I'd give it a couple of weeks, then starting over.
