In light of the recent, unfortunate dq of the Product Shot blue ribbon winner by kellmak10 it would seem advantageous to produce a tutorial that explains to those not in the know (like me) what you might do in camera or when saving these images to your pc that would modify them so as to be dq'd. For me personally I simply plug my cf card into a reader and copy and paste them onto my pc. For all I know that could be modifying them, I am mystified by what happened to her shot when she mentions she only rotated it.

If it's a jpeg, I do believe that windows viewer, when you hit the rotate, will modify the file. May be true of other viewers too. I agree either way though; or maybe adding it into the "how to prepare an image" one, in more detail (since it does list explicitly to copy your original direct from card)?

well i am just frightened, I think the chances of me ever getting a ribbon are fairly slim, but if i did win one and then lost it due to something like that, i think it would be REALLY disappointing

If you use no software to transfer the original image (simple copy/paste) then no mods are done to the shot. As soon as you rotate then it is not original anymore. Also, some types of software will modify the original file during transfer.

this is very true. I always do 2 copies...one that gets transfered to my passport (always with me when I travel) and it is never touched (thus keeping it "original") and I do the "manual" transfer not using "auto-setup". And the second one is the one that I work with (technically I have a 3rd external backup drive that all my finished stuff goes to eventually, lots of memory being used here...hmmm). And I shoot only in RAW now...from what I've been told doing just that will "protect" your original file....
